Obama Joker Poster: Why So Serious?

AP
A graffiti image of President Barack Obama, covered in white paint a la Heath Ledger’s Joker character from “The Dark Knight,” and branding him a “Socialist,” has been buzzing about the Internet today, thanks to links on the Drudge Report, Google Trends and various political blogs. The actual origins of the story seems a bit murky, with Drudge linking to a NewsBusters blog post, which in turn, links to an April 25 article from Bedlam Magazine. Meanwhile, the National Review Online reports that they found a similar image dated January 18, 2009, from the Flickr photostream of “a 20 year old college student in Chicago studying engineering” while doing a Google Image search, while ABC reports that the original image of Obama used in the print appeared on a Oct. 23, 2006 Time magazine cover. (They also note that the poster bears Time’s dateline and Web URL above the picture). Whoever the mystery artist is, they’re surely having quite the laugh right now.

Mmmmmm-K. So a republican based guy together with a douche-bag, propaganda website called News Busted, had a go with a photo and Photoshop. This is something a well thinging conservative should be proud of? It looks more like the MO of liberals quite honestly. Might as well print the 'peace' sign. As an Independant this is silly.

Well its very bizarre.

Bush painted up as The Joker is funny. Just read all the comments on the Vanity Fair website. They love the image. But put the make up on Obama and these same folks cry foul.

Obama 'Joker' Poster Causing a Stir in L.A.

LOS ANGELES -- A poster showing President Barack Obama as Heath Ledger's "Joker" character from "The Dark Knight" is creating a stir on the streets of Los Angeles where the image began appearing over the weekend.

48456045.jpg

The Obama-Joker poster shows President Obama with white face paint, dark eye shadow and smudged red lipstick and also has the word "socialism" printed in bold, dark letters under the image of his face.

It's unclear who created the image and who is posting it across the city. No one has taken credit so far.

Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson is calling the depiction, politically mean spirited and dangerous.

Hutchinson is challenging the group or individual that put up the poster to have the courage and decency to publicly identify themselves.

"Depicting the president as demonic and a socialist goes beyond political spoofery," says Hutchinson, "it is mean-spirited and dangerous."

"We have issued a public challenge to the person or group that put up the poster to come forth and publicly tell why they have used this offensive depiction to ridicule President Obama."

The poster has also gone viral online, crashing the website that first posted images of it and rising to the top of Google's "Today's Hot Trends" list.

For the record I won't be buying any of it. As bad as a lot of people thought Bush was I still got upset when I would see signs on cars about him.
