Justice for throwing a cup out of your car

This is nutz. The Judge needs to make her do community service and no jail time, or jail time equal to time served, and then needs to scold the jury for being stoopid.

If there was no damage or injury than this is INSANE!!!!! A judge lets a SICK pedophile free, but give a cup-tosser 2 years in jail. Way to go Judicial Branch. :frustrado

I agree that 2 years is excessive, however I wonder what would have happened if she had a gun...? Hopefully we will never know.

This is off the subject, and I hate to admit this, but how does the food stamp program work?

Reason I ask is on the second page in the article, it mentions that they have a family of five, husbands sole income of 30k, and they get close to $330 per month in food stamps.

This just struck me odd that at 30k, you can still get food stamps.

My thinking is that even if you made 50k/year, but say had 16 kids, you would still qualify for food stamps if they (goverment) is breaking it down down by the average cost of the income compared to people in the family (in this case, family averages 6k per person for total income).

I admit it, have no clue.

Uh, the Judge did not impose the sentence, the jury did. The judge can now decrease the penalty if he wants.

She's wanted Mississippi for check fraud..

She could have easily started a fatal car accident.. that's why it's treated so harshly.

I haven't seen this in any of the news stories that I have read to date. Where did you get this information? If she is wanted in Mississippi, then why wouldn't the Virginia authorities hold her and extradite her to Mississippi????

Even if she is wanted for check fraud, throwing a cup does not equate to a 2 year sentance. Had her throwing the cup resulted in injury, then that's a different story. Her throwing the cup did not cause injury.

If I get a ticket for driving fast, should I get 2 years? After all, my driving fast could result in an accident. Maybe serious.

Ya, and if she's wanted for check fraud, send her back to the state where she's wanted.

Should we use Singapore as a good example of how to control the population? We could institute caneing....... How about some of the practices that China uses to control the drug problem there.... they just put a bullet in your head, problem solved. For those caught committing adultery, we could use the Islamic countries method of burying you in the ground and then letting people throw rocks at your head until you are dead. Saddam had no problem controlling his nation..... just gas those that you don't agree with and imprison those that you suspect of treason. What we need in this country is law, order, and morality........

And the million dollar question is... with whose morals are we using?

I don't know, but it sure seems that we have a lot of people here professing their moral opinions..... some of which I agree with, and others that I don't. Then there is the paradox of their own moral standing to consider... On one hand, they feel that abortion is wrong, but pornography is OK.... How, where, and why they feel that they are on the moral high ground is a mystery to me.

"Hall was sentenced to probation, but remained in jail because of an outstanding warrant from Desoto County, Miss., for writing bad checks. However, Mississippi authorities said they would drop the charge if her family paid the less than $1,000 owed on the checks, including court costs.
Hall's family agreed to pay the amount but said Hall's purse was stolen when she was visiting a friend in Mississippi.
Hall said she didn't bounce any checks, but her family sent a money order for $833 to Mississippi so she could get out of jail.
Hall, who spent about two months in jail, said she has learned to make better choices when driving. "
