"Other Snowcats" is from other ppl in sweden. Look on his BV202 mini :w00t:
That is build on a rear from BV202 with differential gear from a Studebaker
so he can use the brake to turn around. Rover V8 engine.

Here is some more link to BV202

Welcome to the Forums!

I was looking at your photos and came across one called the 'Snowcat Bandit' and I had never seen one like that before. Do you have any additional information about this snowcat?

That sure is a great home made snowcat!

Do you know if the rear is simply a trailer or are all 4 of the tracks powered like on the BV202 and BV206 units.

I think all 4 of the tracks powered like on the BV202 and BV206 units. Else that should not make sense for me. All he need to do is take waist from Bv202 and build the other.

The weather is not what it should be :(
We have only -5 celsius and no snow. Some forest companys want me to prepare some winter roads on some bog for them with my BV202. They start now and maybe at march they can use it if that have be cold enough. Now I going to fix all bearing on the gearbox. I dont think I get all my parts in time so I can help them with the winter roads.

I bye our BV202 after some year with diffrent snowmobile "Ockelbo 5000" to get my fire wood from the forest. Last year I use 3 diffrent :censored: snowmobiles and all of them get broken when I got there. The problem is that my forest is far away and I have 6.21 mile to nearest house. My cellphone dont work good in that place. After that I say NO MORE light snowmoblie.

looking at those pics they have done a good job of fixing the problematic weasel tracks by using bv 206 tracks under them. that is kind of one of the projects I wanted to under take some day that would make a great all terrain rig that would float.

Hi everyone.
I see that you are talking about my homemade Snowcat, which I manufactured around 2004-2005.
The pictures on top is the very first of the machine.
It looks slightly different now.

I have build the machine from scratch. Frame, waist etc...
The first version, on the pictures had an Opel diesel engine.
I have now upgraded to a Mercedes Benz engine.
It is of course powered an all 4 tracks...

Parts used:
MB 5-cyl 2.5L 20V Diesel engine, turbocharged with a BMW 525TDS turbo. 115Hp N/A, More now with the turbo ;-)
MB Automatic gearbox.
Transferbox from some old mining machine, dont know which type of machine.
Driving axels from Volvo 240, shortened.
Hydraulic Orbitrol steering, 17cc hydraulic pump.
Boogies, homemade.
Shortened tracks and boogie-wheels from Snowcat groomer
Homemade driving sprocket.

This picture is from couple of weeks ago:

Some videos can be found on my youtube-channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWpkEdYAiDE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AScbpigENk0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCRiEeusaFg

In these videos i was using another type of turbo, which not worked out very well, thats why there is a whistle sound.
After i changed the turbo to another type it sounds like it should...

Feel free to ask questions!

Holm, I have saved your photo some years ago, I had done a search of DIY over the snow, images in Google and your machine popped up. it is nice to get the story behind the machine.

is this a fun project or did you build it for a purpose. I see it is working. but does it have to work or does it play.

Oh and does it have brakes?

The plan was to use it for grooming snowmobile trails.
I have also build a groomer to pull behind the machine.
I did some grooming in the first years, but not any more except from some smaller work just around my village.
It is a little too slow, top speed is around 25kph. When grooming it did around 10-15kph.
At our narrow snowmobile trails here in sweden it is more efficent to groome with a snowmobile.

So the purpose with the machine turned over to some work in the forest.
I did mount a small hydraulic crane so i can lift a tree onto the skidder wagon.
Works pretty good...
Last winter i was taking down trees on the other side of an lake were there is no roads.
So i pulled the trees on the ice over the lake to the nearest road.
The plan was to continue this winter, but we have had a really warm winter so the ice did not get strong enough.
But i get some other trees to take care about, pulled out 27 trees a couple of weeks ago. The picture is from that job.

The machine have worked quite well over the years, but i have of course made some modifications.
But overall it have performed beyond my expectations!

Of course I have brakes on the machine.
There is a brake disc mounted on the driveshaft in the front end of the machine.
There i no parkingbrake, but you have the "park-mode" in the gearbox, so it works fine.
