Well after sitting in the corner for quite some time dad decided a few months ago it's time to get back you work on the 601. So far he has rebuilt the framework that was smashed by a tree falling on the cab. He has replaced the skin and is ready to paint the body. The factory 223ci engine has been rebuilt and is running great.

Nice work!

And, kind of in reference to this thread, has anyone heard from Weatherby recently?

Funny...I was thinking of him the other day and wondered how he is. Great guy, and an encyclopedia of snowcat knowledge. I miss his forum presence.

Note: For newcomers to the forum Weatherby's thread on a Thiokol 601 restoration is well worth reading. Awesome work with incredible attention to detail!

Well dad finally sold the imp a week ago and has finished his 1202 so we decided to make the trip to Grand Coulee Sunday to look at a trackmaster that we had heard about 7years ago sitting in a scrap yard. We had talked to the owner but never really pursued the project till now. This is what mom woke to find in her yard Monday morning.

It will so be back to its former glory.

May I ask where you picked this up at? The cliffs in the background look strangely familiar.
Great project and hope to see it out and about one day.

Well this week dad finished putting the dash together and the fuel tank back in place. Sunday I helped him put the windows back in and this morning I put the exhaust together before helping set the body back on the chassis.
I think we have everything together to finish putting this old 601 back together but I have a few track grousers that are bent and or broken does anyone know where I may be able to buy 3 good grousers to replace the broken ones?

Thank you and congrats on getting your kt7 up and running. Wish you could have made it up with us last Friday it was alot of fun. We had two cats maybe 10 snowmobiles show up. The extra activities included tubes for the kids a fire pit and chili wth hotdogs to eat.

Well the list is getting shorter. We just finished the dash and fuel system, tomorrow will hopefully be the breaks and track then the last major thing will be the front seats.

Very cool! Can't wait to see it. Loved seeing your pictures from last week up on the hill with Larson. I'm not sure if we will be coming early Saturday or late on Friday, but we will be there.

Well its been a while, we have gotten the 601 back together and ready to head up to the snow. We plan to take it up tomorrow while the rest of the country is focused on that one big game. Here are the last of the pictures I've taken. As you can see in the last pictures my trailer is a standard car trailer so I had to make two boxes that we drive the cat up onto, this getting the tracks to clear the fenders.

Well the last few days dad decided not to remove the body but instead to repair some of the body damage caused by a tree. He also removed the master cylinders to try and repair or replace them but we are having trouble cross refrancing the old casting numbers. I found a new replacement clutch cylinder but would like to Find rebuild pards. The brake number appears to be obsolete. Brake number is 11196 and the clutch master cylinder is FE 23482 any info would help.

The 2 master cylinders are Ford Econoline van parts from the mid 60's. They are available on eBay. The were used on several different Thiokol cats.

Check out the 252G Skidozer on here for sale, he has a parts cat also listed that had an extra track laying on the back of it that doesn't belong to it. It appears to be a match to your tracks. I know Farmer Cat well we only live about 8 miles apart, he would probably part with that extra track, by the way the 601 looks great!

Leon
P.S. Where are you at? Grand Coulee isn't far from me and you're finding cats in my backyard.

Well we went out Sunday, very impressed with the new cat but we did have carburetoris issues that forced us to turn around after only about 3 miles. I ordered a new carb instead of fighting this one once again and hope to have it on the cat Wednesday. (maybe hit the hill again Thursday if all goes well.)

PS
Logger we live on the west side of the hill in the Burlington area. A friend told us about the cat sitting in the corner of the recycle yard going on ten years ago.

In the classified section 'Farmer cat' has a couple 252's for sale. The junk one has what looks to be a 601 track draped over it if you're looking for grousers. Both of you should populate the location part of your profiles...

I do believe those tracks are for a 1404 imp because of the inside ears on the tracks IMO
