I was with my wife for ten years...married for nine. That came to an end for reasons I could write a book on but I won't bore you all with the details. I found myself as a single guy a year and a half ago with my youngest living with me full time. I live in a small town and know pretty much everyone in town. There aren't too many people my age left here. The girls left are either married or not worth looking at. So that left me with one option if I ever wanted to find someone to share my life with. A coworker suggested I try online dating as I'm a single guy in a small town with a kid so regular dating is next to impossible. I'm not one to dump my kid with a sitter all the time. I was previously of the mindframe that people only go online to find a one night stand but I figured I'd give it a try. I went on a site that was recommended. Made a profile, downloaded a few pics, and tried my luck at it.

I'm pleased to say that I have had some good luck and met some very nice people. Even though the spark wasn't there when we met face to face, I gained new friends who I still talk to regularly. I met one girl on a site(which I won't name). We started talking on the site, then exchanged messages on msn etc for a while. Turns out she lived two blocks from me. We had never met before. We decided to get together for a few drinks. It turned into a 7 month relationship. Things ended after that as she moved 17 hrs away. We still talk and remain friends. I put myself back on the same site again and met another great girl from the city 3 hrs away. We dated for 6 months. Again, it didn't work out. But we still talk weekly and agreed to stay friends. Here's where things get complicated somewhat....

I put myself back up on the same site once again. I started talking to a very nice girl...seemed like things were going great. I decided to look for her on facebook. I found her and low and behold, she was friends with the girl I was with previously for 6 months. She wasn't comfortable seeing someone her friend had been with so we agreed to end it before it began. At that point, I decided that I was just gonna stay single for a while and not bother any more. That lasted 5 days. I had a momentary spur of the moment impulse that led me to go back on the same site once again. Within 24 hrs, I began talking with another great girl. We talked online for about 3 weeks and it seemed like we had pretty much everything in common. We often talked for 7 hrs straight without running out of things to say. Things were going so good that we decided to meet.

Let me put in a way that makes the most sense for when we met...I was literally looking for a fire extinguisher just in case since there were so many sparks flying between us in every way. Physically, emotionally, mentally....there was a connection...a VERY strong one. The first "date" so to speak was supposed to be only going for a drive then maybe grab a coffee and talk for a bit to get to know each other. We ended up driving down to a local waterfall tourist attraction place. It was around 11pm...perfectly clear sky with a full moon. We decided to walk down and take a look at the falls. Next thing we know, we're holding each other dancing under the moonlight next to the falls on a walkway platform. It was just her and I...the rest of the world didn't exist at that moment. That's when the first kiss happened.

We are still taking things relatively slow since we both have a child involved. We took the kids out on a "kids date" to macdonalds then to a virtual world lazer tag game so they could get to know each other without any pressure. Things went great! We won't be moving in together any time soon but it is a possibility in the next 6 or so months. We've now been together a month and things are still going great. We each feel a really strong connection to each other. The children get along great. So this is my experience with online dating. It has led me to something truly great that I would have never found otherwise since in this town, the only place to meet people is at the bar and that's not my thing.

We are truly happy together and are now looking long term.

Here we are...the new happy couple! (this explains me not being around here as much as before)

That was a lot of reading but it paid off well. You two look awesome together and you both have my best wishes. I started dating before the internet came on the scene, but once I started I have become a huge fan of it.
YES...there are liars and predators who take the benefit of online anonymity and squander it. For me tho, the best thing about developing an online relationship is that when it is done can divulge the best of the best, and worst of the worst about themselves without needing to hide anything, or beginning things with a lie.
