O.J. Booted from Restaurant

A Kentucky restaurant owner asked O.J. to leave his restaurant because he is sickened by the attention that Simpson was getting.

In this instance, O.J. showed more class than his lawyer- O.J. left the restaurant quietly while his lawyer said:
Simpson's attorney, Yale Galanter, said the incident was about race, and he intended to pursue the matter and possibly go after the restaurant's liquor license.
"He screwed with the wrong guy, he really did," Galanter said by telephone Tuesday night.

You know, all sorts of establishments have signs in them saying that the reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. I can't imagine this making the news. (it probably wasn't news-worthy until the race aspect became known.) Really though I'm surprised this hasn't happened to poor OJ before now.

I also saw this on the news. While publicly OJ handled it well, I would guess that he supports / demands his lawyer go after the business owner.

Brings up a question in my mind:
Does a business owner have the right to refuse business to anyone for any reason they choose?

Unfortunately no. We can all hope for the best for this honest business owner, but he will probably get run thruogh the ringer and wind up broke with no business.

Thanks ACLU. :2gunsfiri

I know that in MA when I had my store, I could ask anyone to leave for any reason, except for race, or personal sexual preference. On more than one occasion, I had asked people to leave the store, because there children were causing too much trouble, or someone was drunk and a problem. If they didn't leave, then I would call the police and they were "escorted" out. If they returned after being asked not to, then they were charged with trespassing. I know that stores in MA will also ban people from entering that have been caught shop lifting, and that also is legal...... or at least it was when I was in business. You don't have to serve anyone that you don't want, unless they can prove that you are discriminating against them and there is a law that protects them from discrimination, such as the Civil Rights laws, or the Americans with Disabilities Act. This is why the gay community has been pushing so hard to have sexual preference added to the discrimination laws. I know of a particular bar that refuses to allow gays in and it all started with some cross dressers/trans-sexual that the guys at the bar thought were women.

The "race" card won't work here. My sister was there in the restaurant and Michael Jordan's party of 30 was seated where O.J.'s party of 13 was to sit. Only O.J. had actually sat down; the rest of his party was not there. BTW, my sister and about half of the other people there who saw the event are attorneys. It's my understanding that O.J. has already told his attorney to drop the race crap in this situation.

You know what they say, any publicity is good publicity. I'm sure O.J. is probably eating all this up. Getting booted is no big deal, as long as he is back in the limelight.
