A skydiver and a pilot both survived their airborne collision Saturday at a small Florida airport.

Pilot Shannon Trembley, 87, was doing "touch and goes," a plane maneuver where the aircraft touches the ground and then speeds back up, at South Lakeland Airport, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

During one of Trembley's attempts, his plane clipped the parachute lines of 49-year-old John Frost. Both Trembley's private Cessna plane and Frost fell about 75 feet to the ground.

I'd love to read the accounts of how this happened; who was at fault; did everyone survive; etc.

Both survived.

The plane was doing touch and go landing practice.

Not sure who was at fault.

CNN ran the story, there is a link in the other thread, but I don't recall it saying who was at fault. But there might be a story update.

Who has the right of way?

On the water, a sailboat is supposed to have the right of way since it can not turn as easily as a powered boat. We were on a cruise around some Hawaiian Islands and a small sail boat was approaching the inlet from the ocean at the same our cruise ship was approaching the inlet from the island side. As we got closer and closer, I expected the cruise ship to yield the right of way, but he did not. He kept going which forced the sail boat to change course.

I guess in this case (as well as lots of other cases) size matters.

Bloboaters do not have the right of way!!!!!!

Where does this come from??????

Anyway, why in the hell would you be parachuting into an airport of all places? Maybe next time he should try a highway?

This isn't about right-of-way anyway.

In both the ragbagger vs cruise ship and parachutist vs aircraft, it's about stupidity.
