Looks like you did alot to your J5 ! Tell us more about it . Is it the light guage body or the heavier one ?

I am finishing up a similar project

Hello Pixie,

What is the difference between the light gage body and the heavier one?
I did not know there was two!
What is the thickness of the eavier one?

Sorry for my poor english writing... it is not my native language.

Your English is good, Jack. Don't worry about it :thumb:

Are you in Canada ? It seems to me that I've seen pictures of that J5 before ....

The lighter bodies are about 1/16+ inch thick steel and the heavier ones are about 1/4" steel.

The one I've been working on started as a light guage body but someone welded 5/16" steel over most of that.
I'd be very interested to know what year the bodies changed because I have no clue what year my J5s are.

Also some early J5s had smaller axle diameter.

Thank you, I try my best!

Yes I am from Canada, Val-d'Or in Quebec.
Ok, I have the eavier one. Body is 1/4 inch thick.
If you saw pictures of this J5, it was surely on a fishing forum here in Quebec where I show it.

Billa, do the name of Jack59 was the same of a friend on this forum?

Bonjour groomerguyNWO,
Heureux de te lire. Merci pour les mots de bienvenue.

Happy to read that you have love one in Val-d'Or and La Sarre. (names are?)
My mother is from Massassuchet and came to La Sarre area in (about) 1925.
Her name, Gosselin and she married a Briere. They passed away many years ago.

I think you are from Ontario!
I have relative there too.

Yes, I'm from Ontario. I'm about an 8 hr drive from Val'dor. Haven't been there in a few years though...........used to spend the summer in Rouyn when I was young. We'd sometimes head up to Val'dor and Lassare to visit relatives.

It must have been spring :)

I looked again at all the work you did to your J5 :thumb:
Did you rebuild the engine, also ?

Mon J5 est vert, aussi !

Bonjour, hello Pixie!

No it was not spring. It was at the end of january. I was making my "wood" and my damp clothes were drying in my little cabin and the old guy was steaming!

The engine is a 1965 and did not touch it.
I change sparkplugs and wires, distributor cap, and what is in it (condenser, point.. I don't know if it is the right way to write it ? ) , clean the caburator, change oil, filter and antifreeze. The engine run very well. Start at -25c,-30c in the wood where I let the J5. (-13F to -22F). I will change the électric gas pump this week or next week.

Wow, I love the yellow you put with the green. Your J5 is beautifull.
Do you have any picture of the back of the J5?

You speak french?

Got to love those little J5s you have. They look like great workhorses.

BTW. . . Pixie, I think you've been holding out on us, not posting all the pictures of your restoration!!!

Bonjour, Jack

Thanks ! Yes the yellow adds a little something to it :)

Je ne parle pas Francais but I can read it a little . And points and condenser are the right things.

Bob, you're right. My apologies  I'll start a thread with some pictures.

Here is a picture of the back.

Pixie, thank you for the picture of the J5.

J5 Bombardier, how do you put the log in the trailer?
With the loader we see on the first pic?
Thank you for all the pictures, I love to see them.

I am waiting to some more colders nights to play with my J5. I must go 3 miles trip across the lake and the river to cut some wood. I think it will be ok by one week.

Bonjour Jack59

Your J5 is looking good. My log hauling is done for the winter and it was loaded with a tractor, the rest of the season will be fire wood. I have a muskeg to restore ,with plans to install a log clam on it . Not much gets done this time of year, you just want to get into the woods and enjoy it.
How's the parts availability for Bombardier's in your area?, your pretty well in the heart of bombardier country.I'm in western Quebec and you don't see to many here.
Salut J5 Bombardier
