I simply don't answer the phone when caller ID says "Blocked". However, my 8 year old son answered the phone a few minutes ago when it rang and the caller ID said "Blocked". Sure enough he brings me the phone and says "Dad, I think it's for you."
When I said "Hello" the caller immediately stated that he's calling from "bla bla bla committee to elect Barack Obama and we just wanted to make sure we have your support in this upcoming very important election". I wasn't offended (it's obviously that time of the year), but simply told the caller that, no, Barack Obama will not have my support at the polls.
What the caller said next is what makes this a very interesting call. After I said that I wouldn't be supporting Obama, the caller then said "Why are you against having an African-American president?" WTF??!!! This caught me off guard. I said, "Excuse me, I don't think I heard what you said." The caller then said, "Oh, I'm sure you heard very well what I said. Why do you need to be racist?" WTF??
Rather than try to engage the caller into any conversation I just disconnected the line. The more I thought about it the more the call pissed me off. I tried *69, but that didn't work. Obviously caller ID is of no use. Anyway, I guess I'm just shocked that Obama supporters, I don't know if they are local or regional or even national, are bluntly calling you a racist if you don't vote for Obama!
Do you think this tactic will work for Obama or end up backfiring? I wonder if some people may actually vote for them so they don't think of themselves as racists. I have two questions about this call; first, do you think it is inappropriate and, second, do you think it will work or will it backfire?
