While I might not need one of these in the 'wilds of Indiana' when I stumbled across this I thought some of you might find it interesting and useful. I've been on many sailboats that had similar rescue beacons, but the prices have been pretty steep in the past. But these little hand held units are now under $700 and rebates bring them down another $75.
ACR TerraFix 406 GPS I/O is designed for land use, they also have slightly different versions for Sea and Air use.
