Too Little Too Late LMC 1500 Repair

Hi Everybody,

Its been a busy summer and had not gotten a chance to work on the LMC 1500.

Just started Sunday evening. So far I have the track off right hand side, pulled all hubs, replaced bearings, races and seals. Have all new foam filled tires and rims that will be going on it.

Rerouted exhaust up back of cab on drivers side. Replaced both master cylinders on steering along with new stainless steel slave cylinders from SnoCat Pat. Steering is now awesome.

I am wondering whether to use a solid rubber tire on the front idler or just foam filled. It is the aluminum looking wheel and currently believe it is foam filled, does anyone have a suggestion which way I should go and what would work best? Will a solid rubber tire work on this wheel?

Here's a few of the pics of progress (if that's what you can call it) so far.
Trying to get it mechanically sound this year, the looks will have to wait until next year.

Let it snow let it snow let it snow:pee_smilie:

Looks good. Repairs and attention now beats waiting for a breakdown when you are needing it most. Ditto on the old Bronco. They get around well.:wow:

The Ford Bronco is a 1975, we bought it in 1988 and we set it up for Moab Jeep Safari, which is an annual event in Moab Utah where around a thousand or more four wheel drives get together every Easter Weekend and four wheel on different trails that are rated 1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest. The Bronco has 456 gearing front and rear, with detroit lockers, new process 435 4 speed transmission, rebuilt 302 engine. The shop is where it primarily sits, usually only to come out for the Safari or Telluride Colorado area, Black Bear Rd etc. It has been a good vehicle and we love it.

Awesome looking cat! But, since everyone is voting on the 4X4, I'll take an IHC Scout.
nothing wrong with the binders i went through high school with a 1200-d great truck i now own a jeep cj-5 but like the scouts i have always liked the old broncos. all those rigs came from a time when made in America ment something.

the 1980 scout I bought could have used more rust protection. Nisson 6 cylinder deisel could have had a few more hp. Just slow and lots of gears. It was one of the last off the line when it shut down.

Incidentally I know the women who pruchased the last Scout made. She was on the board of directors of IH at the time. Years later the cowboys on her ranch had broken out all the windows and used it to haul baby calves in....It was in very tough shape but was still running.

It has since ben recued and is in the process of restoration. And it was also a Nissan diesel powered unit, and the workers at the plant made sure it would be identified, they welded the words "last scout" on the side of the frame...

Wakeup,
I did not realize it had a blade, How about a couple of pics from the front? Did you sell the IMP ? Is it a gas engine and auto transmission ?

Snow Dog, I will try to get a couple of pics of front but may come later as it is sorta jammed in shop! I do still have the Imp and am looking forward to using it this winter for play and possibly a little bit on my job, I like it because it is so easy to haul due to its weight. I can pull it with my gas powered company pickup. And yes it is a 258 straight six AMC engine with a model A-727 transmission. When I first brang her home I had to winch it onto the trailer, after looking at it for a few minutes soon discovered distributor was completely shot. Replaced with new one and she starts and runs purrrfect!! Will post better pics soon as can. WAKEUPCALL

wakeup,
Is this last pic, of your shop and collection?
Snow Dog, Yes that is my current shop and I am in the process of building another 40 by 60 behind that one just for storage. The lineup has changed, the two sno cats on the far left have been sold. We have added another 1974 Tucker to the collection. To date we have a 1974 Tucker 1642, 1976 Tucker 1542, 1984 LMC 1500, and a 1973 Thikol Super Imp 1450. Problem is I have not figured out how to use them all at one time. :w00t2: Wakeupcall

Well here it is winter again and Iam still working on the LMC1500 cat . Just pulled her out in the daylight for an photo op. Have done a bit of work since last year , on the inside reupholsterd the original seats but in cloth ,2 new fans, new master cylinders, wiper motors, pulled out headliner that was basically an old mouse nest and replaced it with 1" thick perforated foam from DB Engineering. On the mechanical end of things mostly just going through entire fuel system from washing out tank, new lines, pump ,filters,12 volt solenoid shut off, and new carb from last year. Also installed 2 batteris, small rack across back of bed between tool boxes and plywooded bed so as not to smash it up any worse. Hoping to get her out this year even if it is for work. Enjoy a few pics of the progress!!

Speaking of rims... The new ones you put on- what is the lug pattern? is it 5 on 5.5? If so where did you get them? I have been looking for a couple spare rims with no luck.

Hi 201 Spryte, the lug pattern is 5 x 4.5 and the wheel size is a 12" x 4". I purchased these at Hueton Tire Company for $21.87 each. Also bought the tires from them they are a 5.30 x 12 high speed tire for $39.66 each and then had them foam filled which was an extra $48 each.

You could possibly by the wheels at any tire distributor. But you could also check at some of the Walmarts that have the wheel/tire combo but the load range may be different.

The ones I purchased are load range C, I believe their stuff was load range B.

Thanks-
