Take 7 companies out of the world of large corporations, force them to underpay their president and other senior managers and do you honestly expect them to keep talented people in the top positions? No F*****G way!

I've talked to some leaders of some of the largest companies in the nation, they are so awesomely smart that they are scary. Cut their pay 90% and they will simply go to any number of other companies that did not get the TARP money. There is no law that forces them to stay with their current employer. So if someone gets $1MILLION+ a year and you cut his pay 90% why the hell would he stay? He'd just go get another job at a company that will GLADLY hire him.

This is one of the STUPIDEST things to ever come out of Washington!!!

BTW Sushi, I notice you are flying the CONSTITUTION PARTY logo. Where in the US Constitution, or where in the Constitution Party platform, does it say that property rights should be rescinded?

Even if they can be replaced at half their wage isn't that still forty percent more than what the original would be paid? And if two of the top guys make a " job swap " doesn't mean they are both making more than if they stay with original job? Why would they stay in original job?

Perks are only authorized for your bosses at the White House. The only perk is that you have a job. Oh, BTW, the GM job tops out at $52,879 with no merit increases for 5 years. Mandatory unpaid OT of 20 hours per week including Saturdays because you are exempt. Take it or leave it. because there are millions of others equally qualified as you who will work harder and for less. Shit or get off the pot.

At what point to the people that make either minimum wage, or other entry related jobs create jobs for anyone... They don't!

It is those guys that put their butts on the line and get rewarded for doing the right things for the company to start with that makes them the big bucks.

The bailout was a scam, nothing less, if those companies were in fact going broke, they should have... I would tend to bet that when the "Free" money was being handed out, some took the hook and didn't really need it.

The Company Board members are the ones that should be doing the demanding if in fact the guy at the top can't cut the mustard, not some Communist in Washington D.C.

Well exactly which part of the argument holds no water? Even in today's job market.

The most talented people, we are talking about the top 0.05% make big bucks in their jobs. Those folks have the same rights as superstar athletes to earn their pay. Those folks have the same rights as big name actors to earn their pay.

Sure, you could replace Jack Nicholson in a movie role, but you wouldn't earn an oscar. And I'm willing to bet that you could replace Tiger Woods on the golf course too, but I doubt you'd break par.

Now go to one of these major sports figures who has a 7 figure salary and say HEY WE DEMAND YOU TAKE A 90% PAY CUT IF YOU STAY WITH THIS TEAM. What do you think they will do? They'd leave and play ball for another team! Oh, and the door wouldn't have a chance to hit them in the ass on the way out either because they'd be traveling at the speed of light out of there.

Sure, I understand that the TARP deal was bad, I said so up front. It was a deal with the devil. Now the devil is calling in his marker. The company is going to get screwed and the employee, because that is all the company president is, is going to get a new job somewhere else where they will pay him his WORTH. If the president is doing a bad job then the board can cut his pay, but in this case the Government is cutting the pay for the job, not for the man. So even a talented man won't be paid what he is worth in that job no matter what his background or where he comes from. But the reality is that even in this job market a talented executive making big bucks can get another job making big bucks at another firm. Realize the TARP money only went to a VERY small % of the firms in the US and there is a whole world out there looking for talented people.

We had a saying when I sold life insurance; "You will never sell policies larger than the largest one that YOU own." The same holds true for people who have never made big bucks or been in a bonus program. They cannot see beyond their own paycheck and the responsibilities of their own job. They fail to see the risks taken of personal finances when starting a company, advanced education and giving direction and guidance to a faltering company, not knowing if it would pay off. They are not concerned with "exceeding expectations" because in their world they just have to do what they are told to do. They are not required to have great vision nor are they required to shore up a faltering company or dig a company out of mismanagement and back on the track of profitability.

I was a Director in a company and was on a maximum 35% bonus program each quarter. You are only as good as your last success, so each quarter I was required to find cost savings equal to my salary that quarter or to find ways to increase sustainable production productivity by that same amount. Every quarter I earned the maximum bonus, and that paid all the tuition, food & housing for my two daughters who were in different colleges at that time. We were a hard working group who watched the company succeed and eventually go public, and we profited from that quite handsomely.

Without incentives like we had had, you could not expect the average worker to perform at those levels day after day, and this short-sighted anti-capitalist administration is setting these companies up for failure by pandering to the uneducated, undereducated and the underachievers in life who look at big salaries and perks as evil, because they lack the understanding and knowledge, or are not willing to put forth even a portion of the effort that these people do. Yo Mama Obama just got another handful of poor people votes at the expense of the success of these companies.
