He will have no choice but to back down kicking and screaming. A few tweets from THE Donald and it's over,,,,; for now.

So, no Cruise missile taking out his artillery aimed at Soul South Korea. No American boots on the ground, no MOAB's dropped on their launch sites and nuclear production plants.

China looks worldly and responsible. We don't have to kill North Koreans or risk South Korean lives. The little SOB can cancel his shot at Guam which saves his hide and some dignity. Little Kimmy can sleep safe in his castle knowing the USA, and likely his people, won't kill him in his sleep .
Everybody wins.
I wish I could be as sanguine about that as you are. Backing down at this point would involve a great "loss of face" and that is still a very big deal in the Orient. If China doesn't make it clear that they will kick his fat little butt themselves if he launches any type of attack, he may very well do just that. We're dealing with a megalomaniac here who was raised to believe he was destined to be The Big Man in SE Asia; if he admits he is not, he has nothing left.

Little men with super egos are dangerous. They are even more dangerous when their egos are based on pure fantasy, as sooner or later they are going to be put in a "put up or shut up" position, and they can't readily back down or the fantasy ends.

He needs to be taken out ... soon!

If Kim is taken out politically it's just another way to kick the can again because he will return sooner or later. However if he's taken out via 50 cal it will give the next NK leader a lot of food for thought before making any rash decisions.

You forget the 30,000,000 people in North Korea that believe in Little Kimmy. The bomb must be diffused yes, but killing him will just ignite it.

Under no circumstance should we assume that a forced regime change on our part, will create a peaceful North Korea. After 70 years of programing, they are not looking for Democracy, or peace with the west.

They like Kim as their leader, they've had no one else but the Kim family and would die for them. Were that not the case, Li'l Kimmy would be dead by now.

Make no illusions, if we go to war with PRoNK and win the battle, we will never win the people. For the same reason we did not invade Japan in 1946, we can not invade PRoNK.

We can't nuke them either. So the best we can do, for all involved, South Korea, China and Japan in particular, is get Kimmy to back down.

Under the scenario I presented, we don't have to back off on inch.

Killing their beloved leader won't change that. It will just anger them.

We need to stop presuming the North Korean people feel enslaved. They do not. Further, they have an insane sense of pride in the successes of their country. Because they know nothing else.

The fantasy of which you speak is measured by our standards. To them it is a reality. They will fight to keep it because it is what they believe is right and proper. And that the only reason they do not prosper even more is because of the USA who they are told, just sanctioned them, and therefore, starved them even more.

Fat Boy just blinked. He has called off his planned missile launch at Guam.

Fear and common sense can be an amazing combination.

Regime changes have worked so well in the past. There's Cuba, there's Iran.
