i was told was one of four snowcats built for the forest service in 1937. it was a 1937 chevy pickup modified to be one of the first snowcats. it uses two hydraulic sticks instead of a steering wheel, like a tank, controling each track. 6 wheels. worm gear differential. the tracks are steel with teak wood track pads. there tracks are put together from ww1 ford model t tracks, for double axial trucks for the military. when we drove it it was great, spining in place, and could go over anything. but its been sitting along time now the engine is froze up now. it would need full restoration. but its all there. every man that sees it thinks its one of the neatest and coolest thing they have ever seen. I was going to restore it but i am getting to old to get to it. my engine restoration guy was going to take out the drive train, with his tow truck. restore the engine and hydraulics. then reinstall it. then i would repaint it, new tires, and glass, and it would be the hit again at any parade, show, or car meet. call paul at show contact info

NOPE, pretty much a home made machine, a little knowledge is dangerous, it started life as a 2 door sedan, and if it was ever a pickup, why cut the back of the cab off?

would not rely on a single word the seller tells me, do your own research

has KT4's name written all over it....

whoa whoa whoa ...

I did not do any such thing, I DID NOT BUY IT !!!

as I said, it has KT-4's name written all over it...

good cover....

its home made ......

Just a commoner type rig......

What is the opposite of the bait switch selling maneuver any way.
:th_lmao:

the comment about spinning in place and spiral differential did get my attention given it was for sale near Detroit, nothing proto typy would ever be laying around that town......

the comment that the hydraulics would have to be lifted....

I saw some sort of a studebaker military surplus amphibious rig near iron mountain 2yrs ago while hunting down a machine, it had a bizarre looking transmission attached to it had a steering wheel and levers looked very hydrostatically.......

When you cruise that unusual locomotion web site the good ole usa made some cool stuff tryig to keep up with other creations

Too funny that this has resurfaced... I looked at this machine in person around 2013ish. The engine was stuck then also. The guy that I talked to was atleast 2 owners ago... I was told that the machine was home built in the 50's and used for skidding logs in Northern Wisconsin (Where I saw it). This was listed on Ebay a couple years ago and I am guessing on how it ended up around Detroit.

Here we have a one of a kind Chevrolet Snowcat made by Helmut Fritz for the DNR in the 40's. It has steering clutches similar to that of a newer crawler using dual Master Cylinders. Steel chain type tracks supposedly off a Ford Model T with wheels and track tension screws. We have not tried to start it. It has brass door handle and a copper gas tank. This is your chance to own a unique and rare piece of american history. This is not a snowcat that someones grandfather cobbled together this thing was the product of genuine engineer and is very well built and put together. $500 deposit required I have it for sale locally as well and can end auction at any time. Full payment is due within 72 hours of auction end by cash bank wire or Paypal with fees covered. Do not purchase if you do not have the funds available or do not have permission to do so. I can assist in transport or making arrangements for transport. I travel often with my trailer and could probably work something out. Car can sit here as long as needed if paid in full. If you are interested in a shipping quote google Affordable Auto Shippers from Florida would be shipping from zip code 54552. if you have any questions call [phone removed by eBay]. thank you

get yourself a Fritz
