Need info on a DMC 1450

I came across a DMC 1450 in horrible shape. The guy said "the rear end is out of it" which I found out meant the entire rear end was missing when I looked at it. Tracks are off, front blade is pretty much destroyed, many missing parts and the rest is in very poor shape. It has been a major mouse condo for the last 11 years. The cab interior is pretty much a faint memory. I have no idea if the engine will even turn over. It had a hard life before they started taking it apart to "fix" it. Ending up losing most of the parts and throwing others away.
The data plate says the serial number is DOC 1436. 3600 Lb shipping weight. 6000 Lb gross weight.
Can anyone tell me what year this thing is?
My research tells me it would have had an OC12 rear end in it. Are there any available anywhere? I would need it sprocket to sprocket.
It has lots of "character" but it is almost a lost cause. If I can't find a rear end then if I went forward I'd have to build it as a hydrostatic and that just adds to my problems.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Speedy

Hi Speedy:
Just guessing but i would think it is a 1980. When I get home next week i can look it up to be sure. I would check with Pat at Spryte improvement about the diff. I have lots of parts but no R&p for it. Bogie will have everything i would think too. For us to help you "proper", we would need pictures and more discussions about just what you need. the 1450 is a great kitty. Also it may be that it is just an excellent parts machine itself.

Thanks Paul. Here are some pictures. New to the site so I hope this works.
I'm not even sure this unit can be purchased or not. I think it's still owned by the State. I understand they won't pay to fix it for the club but they may not want to sell it.
Lots of work to make it dependable.

This is not nearly as bad as i thought from your description.
It definitely looks to be about 1980 vintage. You should pursue it, I would.

Speedy, did you pick that 1450 up yet? Go get her somebody. It's a shame to let things go like that.

I pm'ed him about 3 weeks ago, he replied: "I haven't been able to get info on what it would take to buy it. It is currently owned by the State and would most likely have to come up for bids if they don't 'junk' it out."

I'm still interested in following up, but would need to hear from Mel that he's not pursuing it himself.

I know with the state up here, they have an auction every summer. They don't let things deteriorate for years like that. Go make them an offer. Tell them you'd take the trash out for them.:w00t2:

That is exactly what I am looking for. Only *Slightly* distressed. I would love to find one of those behind my barn.(or perhaps the neighbors barn)
On a secondary note I wish the state owned our grooming equipment here in WI.

Good luck on your find. mark me down as a touch jealous.

Sorry to be late replying. I don't get to the site very often. The most recent info I have is the state folks are busy with other stuff to worry about this unit and what to do with it. I'm still interested but if it does come up for sale I seriously doubt if I could get an "inside track" deal on it or just buy it for scrap. I'm told it would most likely come up on Ebay or Craigslist so everyone can get a shot at it.
People have indicated to me that it wouldn't be auctioned like most regular state owned equipment since it's through the DNR and snowmobile program and the money raised from it would have to go back into that fund.
The inquiries I've done so far lead me to believe I'd be into this thing for near 8 grand in parts before it's over. With the various components I've already accumulated I could build the slightly smaller version I need from scratch for about half that.
If this unit does go to Ebay I might bid on it but only up to a point. It's a treasure for sure and will need extensive work to refurbish it. It's in pretty rough shape.
It's currently sitting in Big Rock, Iowa and can be seen on Google Maps. Search for Big Rock, Iowa. Zoom to the southern part of town. There is a mowed section on the east side of town and in the southeast corner of that mowed section is a round clump of trees. On the north side of that clump is something that looks red. You can just barely see it. That's it. It's been sitting for more than 10 years. I don't even know if the engine is locked up or not but the whole thing is in pretty poor condition.
It's sitting on private property and they are not fond of folks out walking around. I had to make arrangements with the President of the local snowmobile club to go see it. I do the work on our club's grooming equipment and thought I could help them with theirs.
I'm still going to stay in touch with the folks who have the say on if or when they sell it but I don't expect anything to happen on it for some time. Thanks, Speedy
