4 more Fencing medals at the JV Championships yesterday

Marathon day yesterday with a fencing tournament up in Woodstock, IL. There is a rivalry between Foil & Saber ... and with yesterday's results its clear to everyone that I am the best coach. That is undisputed :whistling:

It is true my Co-Coach and our team FOIL coach managed to eek out a distant 2nd place with kids earning 3rd & 7th place medals in Foil for our team, but meh. My kids got 2nd for Men's Saber and 3rd place for Women's Saber so I get the 'best volunteer coach' prize ... at least for this week!

But what a long day, left the house about 5:15am and didn't get home until after 10:30pm. Congrats to all my kids, had several outstanding performances, and one heartbreaker as my girls star Saber fencer faltered and failed to get a medal.

Rivalry between the two squads aside, very proud of this new group of fencers  4 medals at the JV CHAMPIONSHIPS for our team is a nice way to finish up a long tournament. FWIW, our conference covers 3 states, so its a pretty competitive group of schools.

By the time I got home I was suffering from a sinus/head cold, I was tired and (probably) crabby . . . didn't even sit down to a celebratory bourbon, just straight to bed and sleep

Today was the Varsity Championships for our fencing conference.

No medals today. My best boy Saber fencer was injured. Fenced in pain. Was defeated today in the direct elimination bouts by the same fencer who defeated him the final round of the JV championships.

My second best boy Saber fencer ended up in the TOP 16 so he did well. My best girl Saber fencer also finished up in the TOP 16.

I had 3 more who finished in the next level down in the top 32. My girl who did the worst has only been fencing for 3.5 months, put up a heck of a fight but was defeated in her first round of the Direct Elimination bouts.

Over on the Foil side our team didn't do as well as my kids. So the best we could manage in Foil was Top 32. Needless to say I was needling my co-coach about the fact that I am clearly the better coach ... at least this week :yum:

Recovering today from a long day yesterday.

One more event to go, but that is a small local event. Just a couple teams getting together for an informal/fun event between some friendly teams.

Despite the lack of medals, I think it was a good day. The kids fenced hard, a couple were disappointed, but I think everyone had fun. Several did better than I expected, none did worse.

I call that a win for a small team that is in building/growing mode. Got to realize that in the small agricultural town were I coach this sport we think of "fencing" as something to keep the cows in the field

Congratulations to the kids and to you.

I am disappointed though that you didn't have a Hawaiian coach's shirt. :yum:
