Rockslide shuts down Ohio highway

An enormous rock slide forced the shut down of State Route 7 in Ohio on Monday morning.
The incident occurred on February 26th at approximately 7:00 a.m. in Chesapeake, Ohio.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that the station originally got calls at around 4:00 a.m. reporting small rocks on Route 7 west, also known as part of Highway 52, between the 17th and 6th Street bridges, but later received reports of several giant boulders, smaller rocks, and trees blocking the roadway.
Luckily, no people were hurt, and no cars were damaged in the major rockslide, but crews say that the cleanup could take an extended period of time, reported WSAZ News.
It will be a lengthy undetermined amount of time to open the roadway, due to the large boulders needing to be removed,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Mike Gore, who responded to the scene.
“Then the road will need to be re-built due to it being damaged by the boulders,” he continued.
There is no current estimate on how long the portion of Route 7 will be closed, but officials say it could be shut down for multiple days.
All drivers traveling on Route 7 near the rockslide will be redirected to the 6th and 17th bridges in West Virginia.
