ok, great. a local guy here has several sw48's that he is wrecking, and I need one for my j5. can you say what a reasonable used price would be for one?

thanks for that. to be clear, this is the one right behind the drive sprocket that is attached to the "spring in a can".

both of my spindles/axles assemblies were worn like this. both sides the same, in the same place. sort of hard to tell what exactly I am talking about, but if you look at the spindles, you will see that they are worn on one side. I'm not sure, but I don't think the track can even touch these. not to sure what has caused this.

here is a pic of the angle of how things were sitting when I removed the tracks and wheels. you can see the worn part on the front side of the spindle.

My J5 had the same wear just not as bad. I think it's from driving for years and years through gritty mud and muskeg wearing away the steel over along period of time. You can see the spring can attaching point has been rebuilt/beefed up already so this machine has seen some miles.

you sure could be right imp. not really many other things it could be... when I took things apart, there was still pretty good tension from the spring in a can. you think its worthwhile cutting it open to see what things look like inside the can?
