No permafrost here. It's Drill pipe and with a foot welded on the bottom setting on gravel and cemented in with bracing incase of flooding. We and everybody else up the river are in the flood plane. Sometimes we get water over the bank.

I'm gathering some pics of some up grades and some repairs now. The main support for the front pocket bearing and rear axle needed re welded. The weakest point. Someone had hit something pretty hard. It is way better than new now. The axel repair was similar to the way you did yours. Exept with solid square bar inserted. I am rebelting the tracks and upgrading the front Idlers and springs.

Just got back from a 4 month stay at home up the river, SnoCat'n up The Salcha. Here are some misc. photos. Enjoy as I know you all will. Cause we sure did. Can't wait till next winter. More to follow.

looks like you didn't get much snow this year either and now we have so much sun the snow is rotting away. took the snow trac out this weekend and almost burned up the motor because the snow won't support the weight any more.

Yep, it's tough to get away without the critters. They love to run. They are part of the reason we got the cat. We have three of them. And Mary doesn't care too much for riding sno-go's. The total snowfall for the Fairbanks area so far is 62". Some of those pictures were in December Don. Not to mention we had a two day friggin rain storm in January.
we didn't get much here its blown deep on the leeward sides of the hills and valleys all the sun has made it rotten and it won't support much weight. we have ****** heads sticking out of the snow now so the puppy's are having a blast discovering what their noses can smell now. looks like summer is around the corner I only wished it would warm up and melt off this snow so it would dry up. our streets look like 4x4 trails and a daily vacuuming fills the canister on the vacuum cleaner

Four months!!!!!!!!!!! Dang that would be awesome. Great that you all had a good time.
We could do that also except for this needing insurance bs!!! Just for a good laugh I recently found out what cobra would cost. 28k a year from my previous employer.

I know you all can relate. If I had it my way I'd never come back. It's spring time and time to go to work. I worked 7-10's and 12's for 8 months last summer so i can stay home up the crick. It sounds like this summer may be different. Some local work here till July and then more than likely north this winter to Galena or to Dons neck of the woods, Kotzebeu. Not my idea of a place to hold up. But I have to stock up on all the BS that the civalized society reguires. Here's some more prowlin around.

hey I know there are some snow trac's in your neck of the woods how does that imp stand up against a snow trac it seems more capable than the utv on pod tracks

There is one st4 a couple bends above us. He missed out on the two runs we made up in the hills. The razor works well on pack trails. I followed the razor until the trail was unbroken. The razor worked at the fresh broken trail going up, but it made it to the top. As far as the Imp, In the steep and deep, its like the enegizer bunny. There were a couple times the imp spun out. I just backed up a few feet and thats all it took. Dicks st4 will have to wait till next winter.
I've been waiting for you to get out of the back country to ask this completely dumb flatlander question 
, but here goes. Why did you elevate your cabin? I'm guessing to prevent rotting on the lower logs from always being in the moisture. Around here I've seen cabins on short stilts that are set on sonnet-tubes drilled below frost line, but I've never any on a steel 'trellis' that would seem to have a much smaller footprint on the earth. Or are they actually set on concrete / gravel pads as well??

We are in the flood plane. We do get high water from time to time. They are down 4' on gravel with a foot and cemented. The 1967 flood would have been up to the center of the front window. you see up here where I live all buildings are elevated to prevent the permafrost from thawing causing settling and in some cases the foundation being swallowed up by the earth
I didn't realize the imp was that big I kind of always thought they were about the same size as a snow trac does yours tend to wander much I spent some time in a bombie which I was always making steering corrections
seeing that I sometimes miss the trees but once I get out and realize how cool it is to see for miles I forget about how the trees break up the white. on the other hand I do miss wandering through the birch forests in the summer time and the smell of cranberry's in the fall.
always wanted a jet boat until I borrowed one for a moose hunt that thing was drinking 500 bucks a day in gas. at our prices I decided I would stick to overland hunting from the snow trac.

The Razor is a high speed, smooth riding trail machine. The Imp is rough and slow. With the Imp on ungroomed snomachine trails versas the Razor. I'd take the Razor. As far as Deep snow its obvious. The Imp, the Razor sucks.
