Who makes the best pull type groomer...

Our snowmobile club is going to recieve a new groomer to pull behind the Ramcharger snow cat we have sucessfully resurected. It has a 150+ HP Cummins engine doing the work through a fairly typical (if you call electronic hydrostatic control typical) Hydrostatic drive system. Our bridges are such that 8' is the maximum width we can pass....

We may have to make a choice from existing state inventory, so this may be a bit moot.....But who makes the best groomer in your opinion, and why. Then when we see what the State has to offer we'll at least have some opinions about what they have we can get.:shifty:

Thanks, Hope we all get snow soon!

Regards, Kirk

We've got three drags at our disposal to use. A 9' mogul master, a 10' lamtrac, and an 8' ???. Can't remember the make of the last one right now but it'll come to me. The mogul master does a nice job and is comparable to the lamtrac drag. They both leave a nice trail. The 8' drag we have is a real POS and is only kept as a backup. I find the mogulmaster a bit heavier to pull though. It's dedicated to the BR160 we have stored at our garage right now. The lamtrac drag does an excellent job but is made rather cheap. We've had to do lots of welding on it to get it to the point where we don't have to spend 3 hrs welding for every 8 hrs of use. We've had to change the butt plate on the back since it looked like it had been through a war after only 1 month of use. But we now have it to the point where it's reliable.

ok...had to go back to an older post to remember what the 8' brand was. It's a sno boss drag. It's got the front wheel setup as well as the rear wheel setup. It's heavy. It doesn't track worth a damn. It leaves a crappy trail behind. With the extra set of wheels, the snow doesn't get a chance to roll properly in the drag before exiting under the butt plate. Any bit of a side hill and the drag is trying to pass the machine. It is built solid though. No problems in that aspect but the drag itself is a real POS.
