It all started with a empty trailer and the storm moving west to east.. Last Thursday night my son and I made a flying run from CA to UT for an adventure. Departure 1900 and squalling rain and then.. Tehachapi Summit is starting to snow. Not a big deal for the rest of the other 49 states. You see 1” of snow and every idiot bumper driver causes more snow accidents, so the fear of them shutting down (2) passes to the heart of CA. Just got thru and opened up that ole Dodge with the new tuner, Siri’s 80 on 8 and rolled at 85 thru Las Vegas to St George. Unloaded and 13.8 mpg and life is good. Well 3 cups of coffee later and being up since 0400 we got to Beaver UT at 0230. Time change lost 1 hour, up at 0600 and meet a cool groomer from the Tushar Mtns. Drive east to Minersville and pull up at a wrecking yard to find a Thiokol 2100 saved from the crusher. Loaded out, grabbed a business card for another future adventure and south on the 15. Dropped trailer in Parowan and off to lunch up at Brian Head Ski Resort with our best friends. What a great Friday to see 12” fresh Powder and bright sun. Hour lunch and off for Vegas for 1600 appointment. Backed the Dodge down to 75 and rolled south to the City of Lights. Mad rush hour but got thru. Arrived, adjusted 2100 and winched on a mangled Thiokol 1200. Zech climbed on Denny’s 1202 for a photo op. Dinner stop, fuel and now barn sour. Last leg of trip home and the slow journey with a load and two major passes. Slow and steady, we arrived safely 0130. Great adventure 30.5 hrs later with my son and meet 2 great snowcat families. Overall mpg was 12.4. Couple hours sleep and off to ski patrol in the High Sierras, load secure till Monday.
