I looked at this cat in detail last year. Real nice guy into some cool stuff.

This is how he got it and would have a better value like this in my opinion.

It has bus seats in the back. Maybe fits 6. Rollers are rough pontoons need work. Tables were not done or bushed grinding on each other. Bushings in table and springs were not done. Trunion needs work. Motor needs some parts and was not freshened. Paint makes it look real nice. To the untrained Tucker enthusiast it’s a nice cat.

To be useable it needs work above and more which adds up. For 10K I would buy it and make it a 440 again or it would easily find another home.

There was a Thiokol spryte full cab maybe a 2100 ?there last year for sale. Rough shape.

Value is all about what someone is willing to pay.

Call me if anybody wants details. Brian 9783606886

14067 on odometer divide by 2.4 depending on when it stopped if it did?

Exhaust manifold is cracked which you can see in pic.

C stands for chassis, and it is very well worn and worth only what someone is willing to pay for it

IMHO, not worth much more than 5K, it is a project machine at best,

yup, he is nice guy that read the Bloomberg article...

you will need 248 rollers, at least $40.00 per roller, and go from there...

fyi,

this was an open body machine with windshield only, not a torpedo, this was the cheapest enter level setup, so the body is not original, next the pontoons and frame have serious rust issues, fifth wheels, as track addict stated, need work, along with the engine and drive train.

overall this machine has less then 5 hours of use left in it, thus it truly needs a full rebuilt/restoration. good luck to the new owner?

PP - for the sake of learning. The “c” designation meaning chassis. And the definition of open body with only a windshield. When did they start selling just chassis’ and using that designation? How does the torpedo differ?

Torpedo is pictured here and the one for sale had only a windshield and seat, no body work, this was the cheapest way to get a 400 series machine, and in '63 almost all were sold to the east coast dealer

34 440's were sold to the east coast distributor
13 440's went to Canada, all B.C. and Alberta deliveries
1 440 Japan
1 440 France
1 440 California

these are the chassis with cowl and sometimes a windshield, the lowest price 4 pontoon machine available from the factory

Why would a person have ordered a Torpedo instead of a Chassis? Just so it had a finished appearance? Are the Torpedo’s super rare?

yes, you would have to ordered it as a torpedo instead of a chassis with cowl/windshield, more than a couple dozen built...IMHO, they are not super rare,

mr tucker sr, was an antique car collector, with about dozen early cars, the rear deck closely resembles a Model T turtle deck/trunk and that might be the reason why some were built like that, not really practical to use, matter of fact very limited uses and more or less it was a 2 passenger machine,

no really good reason to buy it as a torpedo, other than for the looks...

desirable, yes, but any excellent original condition Tucker is desirable

many are known to exist...
