Tucker Hunt

Friends son saw this Tucker through the woods about a year ago up in NH. Kid must have an eagle eye because you can barely see the road from the Tucker? Finally hooked up with the owner today.

For now this one is staying in its current habitat. Used to be an a club groomer for many many years. Had a 350 and auto trans grafted into it which was very fast and added to the roller issue.

What is unique is this one has a factory rear passenger door on driverside, the fuel tank located in the rear, and the rear bench seat faces forward. This appears to have been a factory option from what I could tell. Interesting. So this should be a 444A?

Steel pontoons and the rollers all need replacing. Had a number of protype rollers that failed .

Was able to score a few pontoons and meet some modern Tuckers and met a nice guy that was also into vintage sleds.

The hunt continues.....

You could cut copy the green machine out of that photo then paste a Blue 400 series in the picture and have a scene from the midwest.

there is a goomer barn in big bay MI that looks almost the same..... Newer tuckers and random vintage toys scattered about...

Old eagle Eye needs to keep looking. nice find.

Missing , flange worn off seized is what this one had.

On mine usually the grease seal goes and over time they become real gritty or sieze blow apart. The pros will chime in but I beleve many continue to roll till death what seem to happen is the flange wears thin like pizza cutters and also they wear tapered causing lots of slack and side to side play on the rails.

If you look close some of this is due to the flanges on the grouser actual bends out ward. Part of a good track restore is bending these back to 90 degrees .

These worn rollers also seem to escalate the rail wear. One of the problem with a new roller or good used ones is are you putting them on worn rails and bent tracks? This will wear your replacement rollers faster!
