Re: Pittsburg, Not Paris!
I'm trying hard to wrap my head around this Paris Agreement that we just pulled out of. I have noticed a few things. The same liberals who in the past say that it is not the job of the US to police the world, are now complaining about us pulling out of an agreement that would police the world.
The agreement was not ratified by congress, so in essence it was not in any way binding. It is, for all legal intents, a treaty, which, by law, must be ratified by the Senate. Obama couldn't get it through the Senate so he called it an agreement and attempted to commit the US to this 'agreement.'
It had the US paying for 50% of the program, where the US would pay other countries to cut their emissions with no penalties if they did not.
The worlds largest carbon emitter China, did not actually have to cut any carbon emissions at all, they still get money, but it does not spell out that they must cut emissions. India, with the worlds second largest population, was also not required to reduce carbon emissions.
In fact according to how it reads, the only country that had to cut emissions was the US, which again can't be binding without Congress' approval, not the presidents. I'm starting to think that a lot of people complaining did not actually read it ... and the foreign nations who wanted it were looking forward to getting our tax dollars for their own uses.
