We are building a 230,000 volt line over Turnagain Pass. Thought some of you might like to see the rigs on the job.

nice pics typical of a bv 206 stuck in deep snow i'm also guessing you also must have a a full time mechanic on duty to keep it running. i would love to have one of those brush cutters. as a final note there's a good chance i was the one who put the fire suppression system in that bv 206

I haven't been stuck yet. Sometimes it takes a minute, but I always get out. I am the mechanic on my own rig. Haven't had to do more than tighten the new tracks. I do have a weeping return line on the Mercedes 603 that I will replace tomorrow. (I guess they are return lines, soft hoses that run between the cylinders next to the supply lines)

The BR350 seems to be the one that need a lot of work on it. Everything from track issues to hydraulic leaks.

Oh good. When I push the test button for the fire suppression system, the light comes on, but the horn doesn't sound. How can I check that out? I carry an extinguisher also. Used it when my dozer caught on fire.

My pleasure.
In 12 years of owning the Hagg, I have needed assistance only 2 times. Once my winch pulled me out and once I dropped thru the ice.
Never a mechanical problem. Years of operating it has given me an insight on what NOT to try. And what to keep an eye on. And what to listen for. And when to turn around!

Keep those pictures comming!!

Neat to see the machines in action, but for the less informd where is Turnagain pass located?

I can see how you clear a line cut, do you set the poles too, or is that another crews job?

Your clearing machines, tell us about them. The Grinder looks to be a pretty stout unit. What's the engine?

Regards, Kirk

Kirk,

Turnagain Arm is just South of Anchorage. It is a very shallow long inlet that is very treacherous for boats. It has a 3' high Boar Tide that goes completely across the entire span. Surrounded by mountains on all sides it is very beautiful, and the subject of many paintings and pictures. It is also home to some awesome skiing and snowmachining. Lots of sheep, bears, moose, and other wildlife.

to get the horn to sound. you will have to replace the box. you should have a co2 bottle behind the drivers seat with a cable to discharge it right under the drivers seat yes do replace the hoses all of them we used to do it once a year your local benz dealer or vw specialist should have that hose for you.you do need to use the cloth covered hose as we tryed the hose from 6.2 diesels and it wouldn,t stand up.keeep the tub clean as a dirty tub is the leading cause for fires as the brake in the rear throws a lot of sparks. also check the drive sprokets regularly as they are proe to seperation good luck looks like a fun project.
