Corona Virus could bring JOBS back to North America & Europe

Interesting take on the virus, but Maria Bartiromo was interviewing US Commerce Secretary William Ross.

As many major corporation have relied on cheap foreign labor and to provide finished products, as well as complex components, which are then assembled and incorporated into finished goods in places like the US and Mexico, but now are faced with potential shortages of those components from Asia as the Corona virus has potential to explode, it is reasonable to assume that some goods and jobs will return to on-shore sources.

Ross stated the North American economy might benefit from the outbreak as companies "reevaluate their supply chains" to factor in emergent outbreak risk.

"First of all, every American's heart has to go out to the victims of the coronavirus. I don't want to talk about a victory lap over a very unfortunate very malignant disease. But the fact is, it does give business another thing to consider when they go through their review of their supply chain. On top of all the other things - you had SARS, you had the African swine virus there, now you have this - it's another risk factor that people need to take into account."

"I think it will help to accelerate the return of jobs to North America, some to the US and some to Mexico as well."

I would hate to think that there is a silver lining to the potential of a global health pandemic but this certainly could be good North America's economies.

Further, if the communist leaders are ultimately blamed for their obvious mismanagement of the treatment and containment of the Corona virus by the peoples of China it could lead to mass protests and that might tarnish the socialist ideals that seem to be spreading around the globe among the younger people who don't recall the horrors of the USSR, don't understand the truth about Cuba, and never believed that Venezuela was actually socialist.

Just goes to prove that age old adage that every dark cloud has a silver lining.

We gain, chinkies lose. Perfect scenario in my book.

Geez guys, so far the corona virus seems no more deadly than the current flu traveling about the country. Last I hears mortality was 33 per one thousand. Current flu is at 45 per 1000

Yes, it is serious. But you would think, by the headlines, it was Ebola.

The only threat more severe so far seems to be contagion. It appears that one is contagious without visible symptoms for up to two weeks. Making it more likely to spread through innocently unaware populations before it is noticed.

But I believe it really shouldn't be so feared it drops the Stock Market, ( that headline was hilarious) and it most likely won't bring jobs back here. I've heard every negative from a lowered GDP to mass hysteria projected.

It's a flu like all Corona's are. And until we see numbers like the Hong Kong flu, I am not worried. BTW; That one II believe was at 144 deaths per 1,000. Hell, it almost killed me back in 1968.

I believe the media has intentionally blown this out of proportion so we poor ignorant lemmings can beg the gubmit to save us. Fact; CDC is on it and saying don't panic.

...
Actually based on the data it seems to have a scientifically shown mortality rate that is a significant magnitude more deadly than the season flu. (2.1% versus 0.2%) Some scientists are suggesting the mortality rate is more than double the official 2.1% and believe if China was honest, the actual mortality rate would be in the range of 5%. During the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic the mortality rate was 2.5%.

And Ebola, starting in Africa, in a region where it was easy to contain the disease as it was reasonably remote and not a transportation, population or production hub, actually posed very little threat to most of the planet. Corona, starting in a city of 11 Million, with direct travel corridors to all continents except Antarctica, and an outbreak occurring during the high travel season, is a real threat to the population of the planet.

It is the infection/transmission rate that is far more alarming as infectious persons seem to transmit the disease very easily and often show only very mild to zero noticeable symptoms while transmitting. The virus is capable of living for 8 days on hard surfaces, which increases infection rates.

All that said, right now, in North America, the odds of getting the Coronavirus, are very very low. In 30 days that could be different. 60 days could be even more different. But nobody knows.

Fortunately for all of us, India has found a cure :applause:

Where do you see headlines on the mainstream sites?

I don't see them.

On the ABC network broadcast news the story is treated as a Chinese curiosity, several stories into the broadcast.

On the ABC news website you have to scroll well down the page to find anything about this story.

FOX news website currently has 1 story about the cruise ship in Japan on their main screen.

The HILL does not have any stories on it posted on their page.

WGN TV news covers it as an international story several stories into their broadcast behind national and local headlines.

MSN does not feature any stories on the virus as you scroll the website but you can find stories if you dig for them.

CBS news website actually does have stories that are reasonably near the top and visible.

But the reality is its the financial papers that are tracking this virus because it could have significant impact on the economies of many nations, some to the positive others to the negative. It could also lead to a world wide recession. So the financial analysts seem to be the best reporters.

No new reports and it being down played may have something to do with China shutting off the internet to the citizens and deploying an army of state journalists to control the narrative a couple days ago. Marty.
