Colorado: Universal Background Checks, ‘High Capacity’ Mag Ban, and 10 Officers Shot in Five Weeks

Colorado has universal background checks, a “high capacity” magazine ban, and 10 officers shot in five weeks, three fatally.

The Democrats persuaded the state that it would not be this way when they passed their California-style gun controls in the wake of the attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. Rank and file lawmakers, and Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) too, jumped on gun control as a way of preventing violence in Colorado yet the state has experienced violence against officers and high profile attacks on the public since gun control was implemented.

On October 31, 2015, Noah Harpman opened fire on the streets of Colorado Springs, killing three innocents before he was killed by police. Moreover, Harpman complied with all gun controls in acquiring the firearms he possessed at the time of the attack.

Less than a month later, on November 27, 2015, Robert L. Dear opened fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, killing two civilians and a police officer before being apprehended by police.

During the last five weeks alone 10 officers have been shot in Colorado. The Denver Post reports that El Paso County Deputy Micah Flick was shot and killed on February 5, Adams County Deputy Heath Gumm was shot and killed on January 24, and Douglas County Deputy Zack Parrish was killed on December 31, 2017.

Colorado has universal background checks, which Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) described as the gun control “North Star” for Democrats. They also have a “high capacity” magazine ban, regulations on how long a gun can be loaned to a friend before a another background check must required, and other controls. And so far, these gun controls have simply correlated with high profile shootings and a war on police.

Following the November 27, 2015, high-profile shooting CNN’s Brianna Keilar looked at Gov. Hickenlooper and said, “Those [gun control] efforts that you helped spearhead obviously didn’t [prevent the Planned Parenthood shooting].” An honest assessment today would show that “those [gun control] efforts” also failed to prevent other high profile shootings and the current surge in violence that resulted in the deaths of three officers and left seven others wounded.

Gun control never makes the vulnerable less vulnerable, only moreso.

Colorado politicians and the MSM will probably blame it all on the opioid epidemic since they can't rightly blame it on the maryjane!!

Drugs legal or illegal have a tendency to bring out the worst in people. As a retired pharmacist I saw a lot of folks do some really stupid things for a drug fix (alcohol to) like the alcoholic that was admitted to the hospital to help them dry out who got a hold of a bunch of alcohol swabs and sucked the alcohol out of them to get her alcohol fix, these were isopropyl alcohol, nasty tasting stuff. Or the son who was stealing his mothers sleep aids to get his fix, might have saved her life though since a few days later she found where her husband was hiding her supply and she took too many and nearly died. And those were legal drugs, illegal drugs cause lots of problems to.

I know this thread is about how new gun laws don't have an effect on criminals behavior. They just make law abiding citizens jump thru more hoops. I thought a little bit of history and context about Colorado 15 round magazine limit and background check laws would be relevant. It was after the Sandyhook school shooting and the liberals were trying super hard to get a new gun law passed. They wanted background checks for gun sales and ammo sales. Magazine limits and of course an assault weapons ban. They wanted a state out west to pass one or more of these laws so they could say "if a state out west where guns are more acceptable passed one of these laws it must be sensible and we should pass it federally". So they called up our worthless governor Hickenlooper and in record speed the laws were passed and took effect. (I say record speed because laws don't usually take effect until the next year and it took him over a year to implement recreational Marijuana and that's something colorado actually wanted and voted for) These laws were also not supported by the sheriff's departments or any law enforcement in Colorado, they actually protested, put out statements and refused to enforce them.

What I am trying to get at is these laws weren't passed to make Colorado safer but instead they were passed to help the argument the liberals were making for federal gun control laws. Thankfully their efforts didn't get anywhere but we are still stuck with these laws we don't want and that our law enforcement refuse to enforce. Oh and Hickenlooper got himself a promised favor from the Democratic party. Look for him to cash it in when he makes a run for federal office.

Gun laws are not to make people safer, they are to keep guns out of the hands of law abiding folks because the criminals don’t give a damn about the law and by restricting honest folks a gun the legislators make it less safe for folks. But the gun restricting legislators still can get protected but they have armed body guards to take care of them at the taxpayers expense. If we want to see a change maybe we should pressure our legislators to forgo the bodyguards and they might see the gun laws in a different light once their own butts are on the line!

All the anti gun senators and reps along with all the antigun state politicians need to be reminded that it could have been them on the baseball field when Steve Scalise was shot and were it not for the capitol police, he and others would be dead!! So they need to be reminded that without their bodyguards and us citizens without a gun our asses are on the line.
