01 BR275 MP Plus- Tiller Won't Spin?

My snowmobiling club just got a 2001 BR275 Cummings Snow Cat 14’ wide w/tiller.
Sometimes the tiller won’t work at all on a trip out. Sometimes it will work great the whole night, just hard to get it started the first time (not sure what get it going).

Here is a few things we always check-
The tiller kill switch is up
Tried different RPM of the tiller
Always have the motor and fluid warmed up
We have tried moving forward, dropping the tiller in the same motion, no luck.
The auto float light will come on even if the tiller isn’t spinning
The direction light won’t come on when it’s not spinning
When it’s not working, it won’t work in rev either
It’s like it’s dead for some reason, like a failsafe, or something not sensing, or something is bad that won’t allow it to kick in.
All motion of the tiller, up down, pitch is fine too.
It just won’t spin???

Doubt that any of this is related-
The Hydrostatic Temperature switch never shows anything when I flip it
The auto center box on the tiller it’s self was replaced by Prinoth this fall.
Also we need to replace the side lights bulbs on the cat, under the cab.

Not sure on your machine, but I think the tiller has it's own hydorstatic pump. Hydro pumps don't pump unless the swash plate has been tilted, causing displacement of oil and pumping action. That swash plate I believe on your machine is electrically servo controlled. The wiring or the servo could be the issue. IF this circut isn't working, your tiller will not respond. Or it could be the servo motor is bad too..

You need a book with the wiring schematic. And a good digital volt ohm meter. Electronic controls are easy to use, and less so to find the problems with and fix. Some times I yearn for the days of mechanical linkages, especially to hydo pumps. This can mean the difference of getting home, instead of walking....

The lift frame is run from the hydraulics as is tiller pouch and side to side. The tiller is run from the hydrostatic pump. The tiller won't turn until the lift frame is dropped, you do not have to be moving. You should also check your tiller potentiometer. This may need to be calibrated.

I didn't think about potentiometer needing to be adjusted, I just though it may have gone bad. I'll check that too. thx.
