Well it was bound to happen, with a left leaning GOP senator like Dick Lugar as the senior senator of our state, the Marines have decided to invade and return the state to its conservative residents

This might be a good time for the like minded leftists to bone up on their arabic so the Marines have some legitimate targets :whistling:

Marines bringing combat training to Indy

U.S. Marine helicopters will be landing at Eastgate Mall, Brookside Park and other locations throughout the city as Indianapolis becomes a mock battlefield in an urban combat training exercise.
About 2,300 Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit -- based in Camp Lejuene, N.C. -- will be using various locations throughout the city for their Realistic Urban Training Exercise from June 4 to 19.
"Our aim in Indianapolis is to expose our Marines to realistic scenarios and stresses posed by operating in an actual urban community, thereby increasing their proficiency in built up areas," Col. Mark J. Desens, commander of the 26th MEU, wrote in a statement.

"While some of the activity will take place aboard Camp Atterbury, residents in many areas can expect to see helicopters flying overhead, military vehicles on the roads and Marines patrolling on foot," he said.

Much of the training will be centered near Camp Atterbury and other locations in Indiana and Kentucky. Residents living closest to the training locations will be notified in advance of any "mock raids" or other exercises, Desens said.

Landing sites include Eastgate Mall, Brookside Park, Ellenberger Park, Christian Park, Southeastway Park, Bush Stadium and Douglass Park.

I bet some of the citizens could direct them to the parts of town that they could get some 'real' training, and those areas that need to be "invaded."

If they want some real training how about invading Chicago or Philly?

Well if they invade Chicago I suspect they will avoid the housing projects on the south side of town and probably aim for the soft neighborhoods like the Gold Coast or Lincoln Park. All the liberal elites live up there and I doubt they'd put up too much of a fight. :brows:

Well 12 whole people showed up to protest the Marines as our troops invaded local shopping malls and neighborhoods. I wonder if they'd like to go visit GITMO to discuss their views?

About a dozen people turned out today at the corner of 38th and Fall Creek Avenue to protest Marine plans to stage military exercises in Indianapolis.

The protest comes after an announcement that about 2,300 Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., will conduct training from Wednesday through June 19 in and around Indianapolis.

The training will take place at the old Eastgate Consumer Mall, Brookside Park and other Indianapolis locations to simulate urban warfare conditions. The Marines’ training will include conducting patrols, reacting to ambushes and firing weapons.

"We do not want to promote war," said protester Mary Heins, 66, Indianapolis. "You're giving tacit approval to war when you bring in the military to practice in our midst."
Among the messages displayed on signs carried by some of the protesters included "No war games in Indianapolis," "War is not the answer," and "Marines, not in our children's parks."

The demonstration drew honks from passing cars, and one vehicle sporting a "Support our Troops" magnet waved a large American flag out its window at the protesters.

The protest was scheduled to last until 6 p.m. tonight.
