American Discovery maiden run

One of the guys that worked with us made this video and I didn't realize he had posted it on youtube.

I had just pulled out both of the 275 HP Merc diesel inboard/outboard engines and installed new 330 HP Volvo diesels and out-drives. This was the first maiden run after the boat had been painted and the engines installed. The boat would do upwards of 35 Knots with the correct props and rode like a dream, smooth riding in three to four foot chop, where a "V" hull would beat to to a pulp....

(I'm the guy with the coffee cup making sure nothing leaks or breaks!)

Sure seems to run smooth in the water. That can be rough run as you near the mouth of Cook inlet. Went halibut fishing out of Homer before.

Fog, what is the boat used for?

Bob

Well mostly it is used to haul people from the beach out to the man made drilling islands in the Prudhoe Bay Area of the North Slope. We would also be the rescue boat when they have the pontoon boats laying out cables for doing oil exploration by sending shock waves down to bounce the energy back and pick up where the oil might be.

But the ride is outstandingly smooth, being a catamaran, where a mono hull boat would pound you at those speeds!
