Default 1975 Bombi Resto/Repower

I am in the process of repowering my bombi with a GM 2.2 and auto trans. I purchased an entire 1995 chevy p/u for $300 that ran and drove but needed brake and fuel lines to get a sticker so it was deemed junk.

I set the engine/trans in the tub to check length, width and depth and measure for the motor mounts. My next step is to reinforce and add a reciever style hitch on the back of the tub. I would like to get all the welding and cutting done before i send out for blasting. This will be a slow process and is in the early stages but i will get pics as i go.

Interesting project! How many extra Hp are you going to get from this engine? These look like fun machines for sure....I am guessing a bit, but I think your new engine is capable of some what more rpm than your old one.....So more speedmay be had, with out changing anything else....Keep us posted!

Best regards, Kirk

I believe the GM tu tu is around 110 hp in stock form. I actually have never driven this bombi i picked it up with a stuck motor, and after doing a some research am finding out that parts are not exactly plentiful for the old 1.6. My only reason for changing powerplants was for fuel injection and an automatic transmission. This Bombi was originally a convertable that someone has built a hard top for - its a slick set up and offers more head room for the driver. I am going to use this rig for grooming our local snowmobile trails and getting into camp. I am looking forward to using it but id ont think i will have done for this season.

i thik you will find that 2 liter will rev higher than the 1.6 but i think a fuel injected iron duke would be the cats a$$ in a bombi

so here are a few more pics.. i welded in an entire new tub bottom and cut the rear of the tub completly off. The reciever tube has been welded in and the air dam has been removed so water can no longer build up and rot the tub. Should be more durable yet functional.

I need the steering bands relined and new front drive sprockets - anybody know anybody?

Thanks in advance Jake
