This is very sad to read, RedD-

He worked for the Bismarck Police Department for 32 years. Kenner and his wife, Deb, have three children.

Kenner was promoted to sergeant in 2000. He had a distinguished career, earning a commendable service certificate for assisting officers during a medical call in 2007 and a North Dakota Peace Officers Association life-saving award in 1989 for helping resuscitate a man who had passed out. He was nominated for a Tribune Award in 1994 for helping rescue three girls from the Missouri River in July 1993.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the national trustee for North Dakota. The Fraternal Order of Police issued a statement on its website:

"Steve, who served on the National FOP Board of Trustees, was a sincere and dedicated individual. A giant in stature, he will always be remembered for his kind and gentle disposition and selfless service to others," it said.
He looks like a gentle giant.
God bless his precious heart and service, and hopefully his family will find some sense of comfort in the weeks and months to come.

Pretty thankless job on many occasions, but it is guys like that who put their life on the line for complete strangers!

My heart goes out to his family and fellow officers, they were as much family as his children.

A friend of ours works at one of the hospitals in Bismarck. She is a data entry clerk in the emergency ward on the evening shift. She has gotten to know most of the officers on a first name basis, due to them bringing in people who need medical attention. She said it was fortunate that this happened on her night off as she probably wouldn't have been able to handle it very well. She liked Kenner and said he as a really nice guy. She is quite upset over it.
