Here are the results from one survey.
For Ohio and WV I would not argue with the results. Some local pubs beat the chain burger but that is not available state wide.

MARIA CRISTINA LALONDE POSTED JUNE 19, 2017
From the mountains of Walla Walla, Washington to the sandy beaches of Florida, fast-food burgers are adored across the country. But while burger love is universal, different states have different ideas on what—and who—makes a great burger.

In a recent poll, Ranker asked more than 10,000 burger fans nationwide to name their favorite burger from a major fast-food establishment or restaurant chain. You can see the favorite fast-food burgers for every state below.

Five Guys is alright.
I much prefer Culver's or A&W's Papa Burger, or even Kewpee here in Ohio.

It used to be Culver's. They DO have a kick ass hamburger. But when 5 guys came to town... wow. My new go to burger place. And yeah, you pay for it, lol. Plenty of great burgers served at various bars around town, too.

My all time favorite burger is the one made by me tho. Smash burgers are the fav in my house.

I like to make a burger with a splash of worcestershire sauce right as they are done, then add a bit of butter on the top.
No buns or condiments needed.

Kewpee Hamburgers
Where: Three locations in Lima
Known for: Its slogan, "Hamburger pickle on top, makes your heart go flippity-flop!"
Fun fact: Founded in 1923, it's the second oldest fast-food hamburger chain in the country behind White Castle
Sample Yelp review: "Kewpee Hamburgers is the epitome of Americana. After all, it is in Lima, aka Lost in Middle America." - Kate M.

ARIZONA: DOUBLE DOUBLE (IN-N-OUT)
The IN-N-OUT I went to should have been named:
WAY-2-EXPENSIVE - 4 a Pizz Poor Burger.
If I have to got to a chain I would rather go to a Jack-in-the Box. I don't think that they are are in the eastern states.

5 Guys gets votes because they have more locations than the local spots that actually make good burgers.

For me, there is no substitute for SCHOOPS. Its a local chain. Maybe a dozen stores.

I also like MINER-DUNN HAMBURGERS, which is a one location shop that has been around for 75 years (give or take).

Both beat the living hell out of 5 GUYS burgers.

Old Town Grill in Placerville, Ca is pretty good. So are the burgers at Jack Russel Brewery in Placerville.

The BEST burger I have found locally is LONGHORN STEAKHOUSE.
At lunch time they offer a Cheeseburger, with Shrimp soup for $7.99 add an iced coffee (overpriced) at $2.99 still a great deal and you are SERVED AT A TABLE.

The Ralston Café hands down..

Thick hand thrown all beef patty, toasted bun, and anything from cheese to a full on vegetable burger (my fav) cooked on one huge flat top, well seasoned from years of use.

Run by a little old lady who just looks like a grandmother...

My daily lunch for days in the fields.

Regards, Kirk

Yep, Longhorn does have good burgers. I like Texas Roadhouse burgers too, but the problem with that is I usually can't resist their 16oz. Ft. Worth Rib-Eye. My God those damn things are great.
