Fishin'

Durwood RIP

Gone But Not Forgotten
One of my favorite performers Elvin Bishop singing Fishin'. I used to have the album but haven't heard this in over 30 years. He's a great entertainer and a funny guy.

Elvins biggest song was "Fooled around and fell in love" although he didn't sing it. His backup singer Mickey Thomas who went on to sing lead with Jefferson Starship sung it. Elvin played Mickey the song at a party they were at, but Elvin said he didn't think he was gonna record it. Mickey liked the song so much he asked Elvin if he would let him sing it, and the rest as they say is history.

Good find PG and it has the whole guitar part left intact. I know the 45 version cut some of the guitar solo which i hated because it is one of my favorite solos of all time. Very tastful. Elvin is a pretty good guitaist and started out playing the blues out of Chicago. He then became part of the southern rock scene in the seventies. I had most of the southern rock bands back then. I sure miss those days and two of my favorite guitarists are both gone in Duane Allman and Toy Caldwell. Here is one of Toys last songs before he passed. He picked with his thumb and he had that fat tone.
