Daryl Homer, from Team USA, will be competing for the Gold Medal shortly in the Men's Saber competition.

Our women's team had some disappointing results. Our best, Mariel Zagunis was knocked out in the "round of 16" while our 2nd Best, Dagmara Wozniak was knocked out in the "round of 32".

Hoping to see Daryl Homer bring home the Gold Medal for the men's team in Saber Fencing (I am pretty sure this would be the 1st Gold in the history of Men's US fencing ... we've won Olympic Gold in women's Saber but never in Men's)

(Rio de Janeiro) – A silver medalist at the 2015 Senior World Championships, Daryl Homer (Bronx, N.Y.) will have the chance to win his first Olympic medal on Wednesday evening.

The two-time Olympian will take on Mojtaba Abedini (IRI) at 5:50 p.m. Eastern time live on CNBC.

The winner will face either World No. 2 Junghwan Kim (KOR) or 2012 Olympic Champion Aron Szilagyi (HUN).

The gold medal final will take place at 7:45 p.m. Eastern and the bronze medal bout will be held at 6:50 p.m. Eastern

Should Homer earn a medal, he would become just the fourth U.S. man in history to win an Olympic medal in an individual saber event and the first since Peter Westbrook (New York City, N.Y.) won bronze in 1984.

Only two U.S. fencers have ever won gold at the Olympic Games – Albert Van Zo Post who won the single sticks title in 1904 and Mariel Zagunis (Beaverton, Ore.) who won back-to-back women’s saber golds in 2004 and 2008.

Homer defeated the following opponents to advance to the semis:

Table of 32
Homer def. Ilya Mokretcov (KAZ), 15-11

Table of 16
Homer def. Max Hartung (GER), 15-12

Quarter-finals
Homer def. Matyas Szabo (GER), 15-12
