PM if you are interested you can lock the doors for storage containers they cost the government 26,000 each of course we have bought a bunch of these at a good price and willing to past on to members remember aluminum scrap is selling at 60 cents a pound. if interested PM me we will keep some or they will get scrapped out. we are starting with 32 of these.............

Depending on Boggies pricing, I would be interested in teaming up with some western states folks to save on shipping. I have a location in western CO and western NV where a truckload could be stored until each of us could stop by and pick up individual units.

Boggie, more pictures please, inside and out. Any infrastructure left in them? Shelving, wiring, lights, outlets, inverters...?

Bob, they are still at the base till next week, I preveiwed some of them
the ones I went in had radio racks, light, outlets,do not remember any inverters though. I was escorted and did not think I should be taking to many photos . I have to wait for the papers to clear.

Yeah, baby. One of those would be destined to become my little portable Ham shack! :thumb:

Look for ones with antenna mounts!

I believe you're confusing my 'ham' for my little 'pork-chop' or my little 'mutton', depending on what day it is. :smileywac

Anything you can buy, you can take pictures of. The escort is just incase someone has grab-itis.

Cool, maybe Boggie will strap one to the back of my future Skidozer he's going to restore to good running condition. The colors on that box should cause concern for my more liberal neighbors who called the bomb squad on my current military box stored up on the hill.

Good plan. Heck with the neighbors. Start a petition insisting everyone paints their home in camo to blend with nature better. :yum:

The first picture is of one of our trucks with a military shelter (the one we borrowed from UNR/DRI) in the back and pulling a small trailer.

The second picture has the same truck with the shelter and pulling a trailer, and a second truck towing the Kubota. *sound of all the tractor nuts here sitting up in their chairs*

I received a few pictures from 'boggie' of the interiors of these shelters. They look pretty darn good. I've been looking at similar units in surplus stores and equipment yards for the last couple of years and these are the best I've seen. Looks like the shelters were demob'd pretty hastily, but they left some nice racks. All in all, I think it was a pretty good deal. If anyone else thinks they may have a need for something like this, you'd better jump on them the next time boggie gets some in. Shipping costs will suck unless I can wrangle a roadtrip out of someone. If anyone out west is interested, don't forget to check out the one at 'snotrans' place before I buy it; it would be a much cheaper haul.

The dimension dataplate says the gross is 2469lbs. I'm guessing they are much lighter with the gear stripped out. 'Boggie', have you weighed any of these?

When boggie picked these units up at the property yard they were stacked like so...

Stacked Shelters.jpg

He hasn't sent any exterior pictures of them on his property yet, but I've received information from a reliable source that they are now stacked more like this...

All they need is a little wood stove, stove pipe, skids, and a few holes in the floor for making a pretty nice - ice fishing house.

Aluminium shelter painted in camo to blend in with the countryside - no I didn't paint it, just utilised it.

Darn it, someone beat me to it. At least it was none other than Bob Bruninga, the original developer of APRS. Looks like he built a small trailer for hauling it around.

What in the hell were these used for?? Why in the hell does anyone want these things except for a big outhouse? :confused2:

I hear they make excellent survival shelters for kristi owners when their machine breaks down 50 ft from the parking lot. You know how far of a walk that is back to the truck? A man could die being stranded that far out from the parking lot when driving a kristi if he didn't have proper shelter to protect him from the elements........:poke:

They were Radio shelters used for relaying microwave radio signals over line of sight. Water tight, mouse proof, semi vandal proof storage. nothing is ever vandal proof just takes a smarter vandal. aluminum in and out with copper screen between the layers for electrical shielding. Hey they cost the government 13,000 each they would make fairly quick rear cabins for a snow cat. But we have sold all that we want to now just the scrap price is over 1000.00 ea.
