Mocked up the exhaust today , while doing other little jobs . Will tear it down tomorrow, finish welding it up and maybe some paint.

A little bit of fab work this weekend, got the start on the rear boom , now squared up. Need to cut the tree pusher plate to size with a nice curve and get that tacked in place next. Started to cut the main roller shaft to size , but the weekend is shot so I "supervised" my young lads pressure washing the other Muskeg. They had just finished splitting the neighbors wood.

Spent part of yesterday and today working on the muskeg mast, went well as my neighbor and my sons all pitched in. The mount for the winch is in place, just have to make up some plates for the winch itself, and get it tacked in place. Still have to make the rollers and get them in position, before removing the whole assembly for welding. Looks like the rad will come out then, to find a leak at the neck for the lower rad hose and will hook up the pump and lines when it's out.

Evening Bobcatbob, hope all is well.
The bottom sides of the hull were plated and 3/4 flatbar is welded to the end of each tubing and those are bolted to the hull side, each with a single 1 inch bolt. 5 5/8 bolts hold the mast to the back of the hull.

Wasted most of the morning going on a steel run , but managed to get what I needed and had a good visit with the shop owner. Added steel to the mounting plates and squared them up when I got back . Set the Gearmatic into position , tomorrow I'll drill some holes.

The nice weather is here and so are my holidays, so I made some progress on the winch install today. Drilled and bolted up the mounts and tacked the winch into place , the only problem with these surplus Gearmatics is the narrow drum . Since the winch is so close to the boom roller and its wider than the winch drum, so I had to make up a side fairlead at the drum. Got the bottom mounts made up and machined 2 rollers with ball bearings, tomorrow I'll make the top mount, if all goes well.

Back at it, started by installing the main roller and fabbed up some pins and brackets for the side rollers yesterday. Got those mounted today and ran some 2" x 3/4 " flat bar onto the top edge of the beams , for a little extra stiffening.
We cut the old rear tow hook off and next up will be a removeable hitch , that will interfere less when skidding.

Finished boxing around the winch with checkerplate to cover any holes into the tub. Removed the winch and boom for welding, removed the rad, pressurized and repaired a small crack at the lower neck. We installed the pump and hoses and filled the hyd tank, no leaks.
Lots done in the last 24 hours as the power was off for a good 20 hours,so we hung out in the garage feeding diesel to the screaming detroit generator , in a side room , but still noisy as hell !

So the welding and painting on the boom and winch mount is complete, also fabbed up a rear hitch. Today bolted it in, made up some hyd lines and plumbed the winch, rolled on 80 feet of 1/2 cable and called it a day. At 94 degrees today ,I can not picture using this Muskeg in the snow skidding logs , but it will come !
Few things left to do, tension the tracks , tighten all the crosser bolts, and make some brackets to hold the choker cables.
I'm calling this project " Another Muskeg " done ! Took less than 3 years, to me that's a win ! I'll post some skidding pics when the snow is on the ground !

Haven't got to the skidding part yet , but brought home several loads , with about 3 to go. Overall went well, lots of power from the 318, retarded the timing to solve the hard starting when hot and I have a minor coolant leak that's #$%^&^%$ me off , which might entail the rad coming out in the spring. We don't have much snow right now , which makes for a rough ride , so were coasting.

Did some work in the bush yesterday, nice temps and not much snow , a little rough riding without the white stuff. The Muskeg did well, a few minor Hyd leaks to look at , but overall not a bad first outing.

Doing some exhaust upgrades on the 318, starting with some pulling headers from DEC , had to shorten them around 8 inches. Quality wise they are lacking compared to my last set of Headmans ( different application ). Went to studs on the 4 corners holes in the heads , and mocked up with some tractor mufflers. Trying to keep everthing tucked away as there seems to be a tree branch around every turn ready to rip your pipes off. To be continued.
