Eye issue causing me grief

So I’m not spending much time on the forums lately. Or the Internet. Normally high school fencing season limits some of my time from Oct 1 to Feb 1 but this year it’s been my right eye.

Spending even 10 min in front of a computer screen can cause hours of pain.

I’m seeing a specialist, which is helping, but there is still more to do.

99% of the pain is in my right eye. I have special drops, gel and ointment I put on my eye. An eye patch and a silicone plug in my tear duct. I spend a good deal of time with 1 eye closed.

Good news is that when I am not in pain my eyesight is actually pretty good.

Got to go again. Pain is starting just typing this note.

hope things improve and you can keep your normal routine. jim

I’m hoping so too!

Daytime driving and looking at computer screens seem to trigger the pain the quickest. Oddly riding a motorcycle, driving a car at night, watching the TV, etc does not cause the pain. Apparently it is an issue with focus, reduced blinking, and tear evaporation.

I see the specialist again in late January, he has a new treatment he will try. Until then I have very limited computer time, drive less (especially in BRIGHT sun) and use a lot of gels and drops.

have you tried changing the font size?

Its not an issue with size. I could be looking at a photo, a video or a headline. I think it may have something to do with the backlighting and how I focus on a computer screen. A book or a magazine with small font, big font or in between font does NOT hurt my eye.

Bright sunlight while driving hurts my but not driving during the night or even over-cast weather.

I've adjusted screen brightness countless times too. Same problem pretty much all the time I look at a computer screen.

And only the right eye.

Wow, that sounds horrible. Good luck dealing with it Bob. Hoping the eye doc can get you on the path to no pain and full recovery.

I've been seeing a specialist for 5 or 6 months due to eye issues similar to yours. He started out confident that it was "dry eyes" and after a month or two he plugged my tear ducts. Didn't help. My pain feels like I have something in my eye, and he gave me a Rx for Durezol .05% drops and had me wear a contact in that eye after he swabbed something like mucous from it. The contact protected my eye and I had no pain for the 2 weeks and he removed the contact. Then after a time the pain returned. Finally he gave me an Rx for a oral antibiotic for a week, I think with steroids and had me continue with the Durezol drops. I'm not like new but much better. Hope you get this beat Bob!

Mine has some new treatment he wants to try for me in a couple weeks. I can’t recall the name, but he told me, it is used for other issues but showing a lot of promise for eye issues.

I hope they get it sorted out. From a purely selfish point of view, we need you on the forum.

If I spend too long at a time on the computer I have trouble focusing when I get off but there is no pain associated with it. In 30 minutes or so, everything is back to normal.

I hope you get some relief. Eye problems are no fun.
