They rate at 3000 rpm. Out of curiousity Pixie (and others), what RPM do you cruise at? Seems much above 2600 the engine sounds like it is not enjoying itself.

I agree that 2600 is about the limit for gentle operation...

And I try hard to be gentle with machinery... just wish it was gentle back ;)

At what rpm does the motor rate 84hp ? 4000 ? Yikes

I ran max at about 2800 rpm on my V4 Imp. Above that it sounded like it may come apart. The V4 is a fairly high rpm engine. I even baby my Ford 300 6 cylinder LMC at about 3000 rpm max and the VMC diesel at 2800 rpm max. They will just last longer and give you many less problems if you listen to their crying sounds as you work them.

One thing I've noticed is that many people new to operating snow cats try to operate them much faster then they were ever intended to go. I guess they want them to go like a snowmobile. My friends are guilty of this a lot. Sometimes I have to reach over and slap them, because that is what they are doing to the equipment. I have operated the 1404 in four feet of Utah powder and it does very well, if your not trying to go 25mph through it. It was like when I was a kid and drove my dad's Ford 8N as fast as it could go across the field, boy would my dad kick my butt! :moon: Tractors, just like snow cats are not to be operated at high RPM's and high speed. :blahblah:

I am using the MSD soft touch rev limiter on the BR100+. It is a real neat and simple unit that you can install on most gas engines to control the rpm at a set limit to prevent over revving the engine. The prior owner of the BR100+ had set the max rpm to 3250, which is quite low since it is rated max at 4500. I ordered a set of plug in modules and changed the max rpm to 4200 for my use. Below are a couple links to info on these neat rev limiters for gas engine applications.:thumb:

They are very simple to install and work as advertised which is unusual in todays world....:applause:
