The NFL Still Doesn't Get It

Apparently, the Super Bowl is around the corner. I don't know when it is or what teams are playing in it. I don't care. I'm not watching.

Like many Americans, I haven't watched a game all year long, with the exception of when it was forced on me at a relative's house during the holidays. I couldn't tell you what happened this year in the NFL any more than I could name a Justin Timberlake song. Oh, and that's another reason I won't be watching the Super Bowl, but it wasn't like I needed one more to get me over the top.

Too Little Too Late

I read somewhere that they are going to recognize Medal of Honor recipients during the show. I wonder if the America-hating kneelers will protest that, too. The faux patriotism from the NFL doesn't cut it with real America as long as its corporate office continues to support the America-haters. The NFL's efforts to appeal to patriotic Americans is about as meaningful as the porn industry donating a portion of its profits to fund STD research.

For me and countless others, it's too little too late. Sorry, but the NFL had its chance and blew it. The organization could have shut it down when it all started with Colin Kaepernick, but it didn't. It let it go all season long.

And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...

The NFL doubled down on insanity when they recently refused an ad from American Veterans (AMVETS) using the words "#PleaseStand," because it was too political. Their suggested alternate wording of "Please Stand for Our Veterans" or "Please Honor Our Veterans" is laughable.

Why We Stand

Here's a note to the NFL and Leftists: We don't stand for veterans, we stand with them. We pledge our loyalty not to a person, party, or group, but to the flag representing "The Republic for which it stands." We stand for our nation represented by two of its most cherished symbols, the flag and the anthem. We stand to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice represented by the flag's red stripes. We stand to honor the purity and innocence of our nation's ideals represented by the white stripes. We stand unified in our ideals of freedom and liberty - for as united we stand, divided we fall.

The very flag and anthem that many NFL employees find so reprehensible represent the ideals that our veterans were willing to defend to their deaths. I wonder if those NFL guys actually understand that. You can't pretend to be respectful of veterans when you show complete disrespect for the symbols for which they dedicated their time and their lives. These symbols represent the ideals of the country they love and were willing to die for. The flag embodies the great ideals of America: freedom, liberty, equal justice under the law. You should be standing up for those ideals, not sitting in protest with fists raised.

Blinding Hypocrisy

So to get this straight, the NFL is okay with employees making political statements while on the job, but they're not okay with accepting a PAID AD from a veterans organization asking people to stand for the National Anthem...which they claim is too political. Is it really any wonder why they have lost so many viewers?

The NFL is trying to have its cake and eat it, too. You can't love veterans yet disrespect the country for which they fought. You can't wave the flag and step on it at the same time. You can't pretend to love law enforcement and employ individuals who wish them dead.

Flag protester and San Francisco 49'er Eric Reed stated:

“It baffles me that our protest is still being misconstrued as disrespectful to the country, flag and military personnel. We chose it because it’s exactly the opposite. It has always been my understanding that the brave men and women who fought and died for our country did so to ensure that we could live in a fair and free society, which includes the right to speak out in protest.”
Newsflash from Captain Obvious to Eric: Sitting during the National Anthem IS disrespectful to the country, flag, and military personnel. Not me nor any other veteran I know signed up to fight or die for our country so you could disrespect one of its most cherished symbols, Old Glory. Sure, we respect your right to free speech, but you would have to look long and hard to find a veteran who thinks our founders' vision of free speech included being disrespectful to the nation's flag.

If they want to protest, how about going to city hall and making their case against police brutality there? Oh, they'd have to do that on their own time. My bad.

There it is in a nutshell.

Bump!
The players are now to stand during the National Anthem.
According to commissioner Roger Goodell.

As I heard it, they have their choice of standing for the Anthem or remaining in the locker room until the Anthem is over.

IMHO, if they stay in the locker room for the Anthem, they should stay there for the entire game.

Doesn't matter to me what the players do.
A great American past time destroyed forever over a bunch of overpaid asshats behaving in an un-American fashion.
Some of us on this forum used to get excited over particular teams playing, the bowl games etc.
Not any longer.

Agreed 100%

Looks like another year of NASCAR for me. Not really into baseball or basketball and hockey is almost over.
