well I'm not so ready to jump on to that one. I like the cap, by lifting it it would make most of my ot and moneys earned after hours subject to more taxes. I'm working almost 20 hours a day just trying to make ends meet right now.

Well.....

The good - It would do exactly as stated.

The bad - People that have significant money have more options to "hide" that money from the taxman than lower income people. Not sure it would work in the long run.

I have read about fairly rich people divesting themselves fo their citizenship to avoid taxes.

How about government just puts back what they took and the interest on that money?

SSA funds are held in a separate trust account; those funds cannot be used for any purpose other than the payment of SSA
benefits; this is the truth, the mostly truth, and nothing but the almost complete truth. The SSA enabling legislation called for
the wise investment of trust fund monies in order to permit the fund to grow beyond the amount collected as FICA tax.
The problem is that government financial instruments are considered "wise investments", so the trust fund is heavily
invested in all sorts of government bonds and securities. If those are all paid back, with appropriate accrued interest, the
trust fund would be in pretty good shape; the rest of the government, on the other hand, would definitely be in deep
trouble.

If SSA funds were invested outside the government it's nearly certain that the trust fund would be in better shape than it
is now, and an increase in the taxable ceiling would not be necessary. Congress could make that a reality any at any
time, but it would mean finding other sources of income (read: Tax Increases) or cutting back expenditures (read:
Slashing Entitlements). If push comes to shove you can bet they will pick Option 3: dither around doing nothing but
yammer until it's too late.

Would anyone care to wager that I'm wrong?

So making more money you contribute on all your earnings but only get the benefit of someone making 118k?

SOCIALISM!

save for your retirement and you will not need handouts.
And keep ss funds in ss lockbox. But it's all gone now. Now the system runs paycheck to paycheck.

It's only fair that every income bracket pay the same percentage rate. No one pay more or less than the other.

Everybody here needs to do whatever they can to insure that Bernie Sanders is on the ballot for President in 2016. He is running and raising money for it. Lots of money. He is very popular with the loonie left and the commies. He will take many votes away from the Democratic candidate and divide them during the primary and debate season. This strategy is employed by the left to divide Repubs and TeaBaggers. We need to do the same. Good for the goose, good for the gander.

He has even alluded to the fact that he will run as an independent for President if not receiving the Dummo nomination. Even better. He will garner many many more votes then Nader ever saw.

He will carry his home state which is only 3 electoral votes but that's 3 less for the Dummos.

As for SS it's an endless debate. As the population ages the stress on the system increases as well. There are no easy answers. The most common sense approach would be what Sanders is proposing. I only agree with it because I have not heard of a better answer on fixing what ails it without adversely affecting the middle class who are struggling right now with 6 years of having the morons in charge.

And it's only fair that each individual gets back the same percentage as their contributions.

Thus, those who contribute nothing get - nothing.
The 100 million/year guy gets back the same percentage as the 100K/year guy. Something around 50K/month. (just an illustrative guess)

I'm not so sure I would jump at that opportunity I think anytime you give them the government more money to play with They will find scam way to waste it. If they hadnt stolen from it in the first place social security wouldn't be in AS much trouble as it is.

And if it had never been started by Liberals, I would have about a million+ more in brokerage accounts invested aggresively since I was 30.
Let's say I "retire" at 70 and pull maximum of something like 3000 a month.
Let's say I live to be 90. 20 years x 12 months x 3000 = 720,000. And all the time the balance of the million would be earning an average of 7% per year. The bastards stole a half million from ME, and maybe more if I never see SS.

You Rinos are killing me; claim to be conservatives/libertarian but debating both sides of the earners-subsidizing-the-lazies debate.

a person is a person. 1 morning, they may be rich. another, poor. ppl get ill. they get old. they may be born ill. they may be unable to work. some may have substantial funds, whereas another may have bagged groceries half thier life & is none too rich & lacks necessary benefits.

i take into consideration people & their circumstances & their fiscal situations. many wouldn't have food or shelter sans programs. many also abuse programs. i think it's none too rough to see those that actually require $$ due to illnesses/etcetera, & fakers. often, a lawyer is a great investment.

Fred (Waybomb) - just curious, what would you do with the lower income people when they get old and have no money?

Danang Sailor - The SS trust has been raided to run the country more than once. Check me out.

There is not a good answer here. All I know is that at 13 years old, I got a job. I have been continually employed, and, I am still working. I should be 70 in January. I don't have a lot of money. I paid for my SS I and I need it. I see no shame in that. I deserve it.

Lower income people with no money is NOT my fault.
I <could> be in the same boat, right?

But I CHOSE to take a different path, I busted my ass, like you, starting at 13. I lied about my age. I been busting my ass ever since then. On my own time, taking relevant classes, reading like crazy, working on my stuff adding value to it all the way. Took alot of risks. I have some stuff, but I bought it all used and sunk my elbow grease into it. I shopped and bought inexpensively. I didn't get lured in by every loan or credit card offer that came my way. I bought a new car for my wife in 1996 and before that I bought myself a new car in 1976. The other cars I owned were all used. The houses I bought were preowned. In my own way, I was frugal. Later in life I was able to buy some neat shit. But I still do it myself, and spend minimally to keep it all going. Recently divested and now working for somebody again. I am slowing down. But I am also starting to enjoy life, with the money I EARNED and have left. I ain;t giving it away.

No, I give a crap about people with no money; it is their fault. Seems you are insinuating I should feel sorry and give my money to them, that I earned, while they worked their 40 hours a week and enjoyed every weekend and every evening at home. So my 70 hours a week working was for them, right, so they could sit on their ass and play the poor card their entire life?

I DO NOT OWE THEM A THING!

They paid into SS, live on SS if that's all they saved for. Aldi is cheap. I could live on abouut 40 bucks a week from them. A cheap apartment that's a shithole is 400. They don't need air conditioning, a smart phone, a 400hz 65" tv with all 500 dish channels, and they can keep their thermostat at 60 degrees in the winter and wear warm clothes. SS covers all of that, and leaves enough money to buy Milwaukee's Best and be drunk most of the time. What else do they need?

I have a simple answer to all of this. Make welfare, EBT cards and the like as hard to get as a building permit. Once that happens everything will be copacetic.

Fred - I think you are reading more into what I wrote than I intended.

You worked for what you have and should enjoy the benefits of that work. I worked for what I have and have not been as fortunate. I am not asking you to support me.

To you, I asked just one question, what to do about older people that have nothing? If left to their own devices, they will feed their families, one way or another, and their vote counts as much as anyone else's.

Just had an interesting thought. Are poorer people more likely to vote than people who are more comfortable?

I do think there are a lot of folks who do not work and if their SS and food stamps are cut off they would be more likely to steal to provide for themselves and family than to take a menial job. Just saw a jobs report on Fox. They say there were 248,000 new jobs last month. The majoiity were menial jobs.

My thoughts .... Good paying jobs are few and far between and will go to someone with a college degree. A recent grad or a seasoned professional.

The only thing that will reverse the decline of the middle class is the return of manufacturing jobs to America. The only thing that will reverse the exodus of manufacturing jobs overseas and return manufacturing jobs to America is a cut to corporate tax rates.

Of course the progressives would condemn this as pandering to the one percent.

So the only way to return manufacturing jobs to America -- and thus reinvigorate the middle class -- is to get the progressives out of office.

It is really no more complicated than that ... which means all of the low-information voters must be killed.

to those who ask about how to handle the old with no ss ,just look at other country's that don't have it. in Korea family's take care of the elderly, which is appropriate as mom and dad raised you as a kid, your turn to pay back. look at this country's system you come here with your parents, now uncle Sam will take care of the old, you can now spend your money on nice cars and dinner out on the town. if there is one change that should be made it is if you never paid in to it you shouldn't be able to receive it .
