A freight train rolled into town. First one in more than 20 years.
It brought a 550,000 pound transformer on a Schnabel car. http://southern.railfan.net/schnabel/schnabel.html

It's so big that it was hard to get a picture of it all.

It came thru Crawford Notch.

The train car can shift the load to the side and up and down.

They have moved the transformer on to a Goldhofer trailer with 96 wheels that steer and equalize the load.
Tonight at 10 they'll start the 4 mile trip to the substation.
I can't wait to see it go up the dirt road !

That is a great old Autocar. They made some nice specialaty trucks.
