1980 Thiokol Super Imp - brake/steering issue

Hello all -

I am new to this forum, and also new to snowcats...so basically a rookie...

Got my machine a week ago. After one of the tracks started spinning going up a steep hill on our property, the left brake/steering lever does not seem to have any resistance when I pull it towards me anymore... Does anyone have an idea why this could have occurred? Does it need to have some sort of fluid after-filled or something?

have you checked master cylinder fluid level, also you need to use an oil with a friction additive for wet clutches in the differential. I use amzoil powershift oil but there are other oils out there commonly referred to as tractor oil. as it is a super imp you likely have an oc-12 in it with drop boxes the bands are easy to check by removing the top and looking in to the gear box you should have it filled a couple of inches over the top of the fill plug if you don't have a cooler and circulating pump on it

Thank you for the information, Don. Will check this out.

I've got a DMC 1450 (basically an LMC), and the master cylinder for the brake steering is low. What kind of fluid should I use, brake fluid or hydraulic fluid ?

pat at sprite improvement can answer that for you I believe it is dot-3 brake fluid my 2100 is hydraulic steering and uses pump pressure to steer.
