I've had a magellan roadmate GPS for about 5 years now. Lately it's been acting up by refusing to turn on and once I do get it going it dies a few minutes later. Other times it works fine. However. Right from day 1 it's been slow to input the address and destination. So I decided a couple weeks ago to replace it. I found a garmin nuvi 205 on ebay which I picked up for under $15. I got it today. At first site the unit is a tiny thing that fits in the palm of my hand. It looks to be about half the size of the magellan. I updated it with the latest maps and tried it. I'm very happy with it so far. It's fast and smooth. For a basic GPS I recommend it.

The Nuvi are good units. I have 3 of them and have no complaints at all.

We're kinda lazy and don't remove them when we park in a parking lot and have a couple bite the dust because of the heat. This only happens after the unit is several years old.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Garmin. Bob

One thing I've noticed is that the magellan is sloooooow at inputting commands. Right from factory mine would often take close to 10 seconds to accept each selection or key I pushed. This garmin blows it out of the water.
