So this is why it only steers one way!

So we have a customer that brought us a Muskeg carrier with a crane on it and they said it only steers one way, well here is why!

It still moved, but to turn left you had to back up and pull the right lever till it was pointed where you wanted it to go.then forward for a ways, then backup to repoint the front, if going forward, over and over. Turning right worked just fine

A broken drive axle can do it also, that would have been to easy.
Also a broken steering band will also act the same.

Well, it does take some effort and aggravation. (E&A)On a Muskeg carrier normally when they have the final drives you can pull the short axles that feed the bull gears from the differential and then proceed to take the radiator out to access the cover on the differential. And then lift the engine a few inches to get at the cover bolts.

But on this machine, due to a previous axle change on the one side you could not just pull the short axle that runs the smaller bull gear in the final drive. It was to long to clear. We had to split the track, remove the sprocket hub just to remove the axle in order to get the differential out.

Total time will push about 30 hours, Parts will be about 3700.00,differentials are expensive! Take care of the one you have!

This one had about 10 gallons of water in it, three of the cover bolts were missing (most likely how the water got in) most of the cover bolt were loose, some are stripped, and needed to be tapped to the next larger size.

It’s not the effort that costs a lot but aggravation is time and half!
