I have all kinds of it but it is in stocks such as REIT'S. For most people it would not work as the amount that they have to work with in an IRA would be insufficient to purchase property and if they did it would involve to few properties where the risk would be to concentrated.

The first paragraph in the link that you provided should be a give a way. They had 11K each in their retirement accounts and purchased a property for 18K. Within four months they sold it for 35K.

There are some great deals out there sometimes, however to put everything in one basket in a retirement account is not good. How many people do you know that are savvy enough to get that kind of rate of return on property in that time period?

Looking at the situation, converting the regular IRA to a Roth IRA and then the property deal means that there was some sort of inside information on the property and the final disposition of it. For the average person their biggest asset is their home, by investing in real estate with their retirement would be to much of a gamble.
