Frozen bean Cat Fest 1/18-19/2020

Here it is, the least and most organized gathering of cats in Western NY!
No fancy mountains or globs of powder to mess with here. Bring a cat, bring skis, bring a board, bring a sled (the plastic torpedo ones are the best for the hill- steerable!)

I got a second complaint about the small font, it looks fine on all of the billboards...

For all of the small screened people, it says:

“*Ski Lima is a private backyard ski hill with no real legitimacy and all users agree that participation is at their sole risk- I hope. Family and friendly dog friendly, snowcats need not be friendly. There will be some room to cat around our land and several neighboring properties for sure, possible access to larger ag parcels that are adjoining. No schedule as of yet, very flexible. Rope tow will run as long as there are people sledding or skiing/boarding. Food and drinks. Sounds like a plan.”

Ok, no billboards.
All joking aside, just a hand full of cats would be a really good turnout. I’m guessing quite a few of our friends, our kids friends, neighbors will be here too. Plenty of room to park trailers and unload. A fire will be burning in the barn, heated fix-it area. Lots of antique stores along NY 5&20, Finger Lakes Wineries near by, Rochester is 20 min away. Sqrwl has dibs on the bunk house.

Lou ( my son ) and I have given some thought to attending, at a minimum we would be roof racking some boards and perhaps a fat tired bike??? ( did not see any mouse font prohibiting ) Sans snow cat. for what ever reason I rehome another snow cat towards the east I would bring to the bean for free......

Cool cool. No rules against fat bikes.

What are the odds that you’d show up without a cat and not have a full trailer on the way home? You probably have a few waiting to be picked up out this way

Here we go again! Another low snow event after the last melt off, maybe 6” again plus a little drifting. Probably good for 3-4 days of use before the next meltdown.
Still way ahead of the last few years...

Was that snow storm swirling clockwise or counterclockwise when it came through? :weneedpic:weneedpic:smile:

I don’t think it’s the rotation of the storm as much as it is the direction that the ice cubes are swirling in Princess Drink Drink Drink’s glass of Colorado whiskey

I remember as a kid, the ski hill we all learned on had rope tows, and 1 hill had T-bars.
Not being provided the right kind of gloves, they were destroyed in a matter of an hour by the ropes.
T-bars were a real challenge too.
I hope they've improved over the years.
All it took was one inexperienced person on either, and the whole line became chaos.

There were always the older kids who built great jumps.
The jumps weren't allowed, but the guys would sneak onto the slope at night and build them.
If you got there first thing in the morning you could use them until they were discovered, and the groomers took them out.

I snapped off more ski tips on cheap skis then I care to remember.

How cool that you have your own little setup.
You're probably like the one kid everybody wanted for a friend because his folks were the only one in the neighborhood who had a swimming pool.

I put together a bed and breakfast for a season or two up in Breckenridge.
That was when I gave up skiing, as snowboarders took over the slopes and made them nothing but dangerous.

Here's hoping you have a fun get together!

If the snow machine ever does turn on again, what is the event agenda?

Event!? Agenda? That sounds too official

I think it would be a pretty small bunch of people so it would be show up whenever, figure the rest out as we go.

There are colder temps and some snow in the forecast starting this weekend, hopefully it gets going.

If there’s no snow I’d have to postpone until we get a good storm:bolt:

Mother nature is a fickle bitch this year. for sure

I live in east central, and recreate in north WI mostly on the the MI border.

It is a snow globe in the north.... and on the drive home today the weather just flipped. it is amazing how a climate can change in a 2hr distance. elevation being +/- 700' ish.

I sure hope so. I hate to say it but it’s been the trend the last few years, warm January, cold February and a few nor Easter’s in March. We’ll enjoy it when we have it, can’t count on it to be a given anymore.

Ice age! Ice age! Ice age!

At least I’ll be getting a little more snow on the tracks at the Canadian snowcat clowder in the UP at the end of the month. Go team yellow!
