I do not lay carpet cause I don't know how to blend a seam good enough to suit my sorry ass .
I spend 1 1/2 weeks rebuilding a room that had a fire . New rock and texture, all new wiring, new paint ,custom doors , new closet layout . All video and computer cables now installed in the walls with plugin jacks .
So the owner hires a carpet guy to lay the new carpet . First thing the dumb ass does is drive the carpet strecther through my wall . His excuse is where is the floor wall bottom plate . My answer " Its at the bottom of the wall where all floor plates are located !!!He put the butt pad up on the wall . Then he cuts the carpet to short and tells me he cannot tuck the carpet to the Patio door frame so I need to get a strip of metal for it !!!

Bet Me :yum:. This dumb ass is not comming on my job that I busted my ass to look professional and correct and start telling me a fuckng thing . It don't work that way . And I don't give a fuck who hired him , owner or not . Its done right or I will not put my stamp on it and he don't get paid . New carpet will be ordered on Monday and that dumb ass is paying for the hole in my wall too !!!!Some dumb fuckers should not try to be home improvement specialist after watching a couple of those home improvement shows on TV !

Lol, how about those clowns that patch some sheetrock on the ceiling and then spray popcorn finish on everything. And I mean everything! Ceiling, walls, windows, switch plates, doors, hardware, stairs, stair rails, lights, trim, crown, etc. And then ask you to get paid. WTF?

The backwoods tradesmen of Elk City, Idaho will breath a sigh of relief when Big Al moves away.

I bring in my own sub trades who put their name on their work at the same professional level that I do. Why not just tell the customer that it will cost $_____ to fix what HIS carpet guy messed up? I know how you feel, but it's not worth getting your blood pressure up over. It's the customer's problem, not yours.

I understand what you are saying but I gotta disagree . It is my problem even if the owner said go with them . I am the general on the job . Part of that job is to make damn sure the owner gets the professional work they pay for . The guy came back and said "No Charge for the labor".

NOT GOOD ENOUGH !!! When he pays for my wall , fixes his mistake of cutting the carpet to short , and hides the fickin seam that a blind man can see , then he will get paid . He is trying to play the end around game by going straight to the owner and it ain't going to happen . I told the owner this morning that my shoulders are wide and lay the blame for the POS not being paid on me . She is a push over , I am not . She paid for my services as a professional and she will get 110% of that .

You only pay me one time , The job will be done right and come in on budget ,and on time . No exceptions .

Wait a minute, did you approve the customer's selection of the carpet installer, or did the customer source and hire the installer outside of your contract with her and without your consultation? it now appears that you had a part in the installer's selection. If that's the case, then as GC he needs to satisfy you as well as the customer, and you need to be on him like white on rice until he performs to the contract specs and in a workmanlike manner for his discipline/trade. FWIW, I hate carpet jobs where you can see the seams. I feel this is very amateur, and is unacceptable, regardless of the cost of the carpeting.

It was sourced out without me being advised or having knowledge . Its just the way I flow . Owners have no idea most times and its part of that OH & Profit that they pay me to have a general on the job . Its as much my fault as anyones . They came in on a Saturday and did the work . I do not work weekends and did not know they were there until the damage was done . I still hold them accountable for doing professional work .

And that is how I like to work . In 10 years from now , no one will remember that Joe Blow did the Carpet work , but they will sure as hell remenber me as the guy in charge . It is and extension of my professionalism and I am responible for every guy on the job .
