Lightbulb Handgun sight allows both eyes open: Occluder Gun Sight

Melen is right handed but left eye dominant. It makes it difficult for her to quickly aquire a target and shoot with a handgun. The obvious option is to train herself to shoot left handed, or to put a patch over her left eye to force her right eye to be used.

The less obvious answer is brand new gunsight called a Triple Occluder

I installed this gunsight last night with the help of a few friends at the cigar lounge last night. 2 of them are right handed and left eye dominant and they both LOVED this sight.

It works by having vertical channels that allow you to center the gun and use both eyes.

Top view: You can see the sight channels and the fact that the 'dots' are moved well forward closer to the ejection port.

Rear view: Looking down on the sight from the rear of the gun.

Side view: Angled side view looking into the sight channels.

Right side:

Left side:

MONEY SHOT: Looking down the sight picture lining up the 3 dots.

OFF CENTER: What your eyes see if you move the gun off to one side. At least 1, and sometimes 2, of the 3 dots are obscured by the sight channels.

interesting, you notice any difference do to a decreased distance between sights?

Good question and one I don't have an answer for. Yet.

We installed this last night. I have not shot it yet so I can't tell if the reduced sight radius will be an issue with accuracy or not. My guess is that it will probably increase accuracy for my daughter and others who are cross eye dominant and are constantly fighting their eyes to get a sight picture. However, for someone who does not have issues and shoots with the hand that corresponds to their dominant eye then I think the reduced sight radius probably will slightly lower accuracy at moderate and longer ranges.

I found, while playing with it, that I was able to get a very quick sight picture and align the dots onto target. A couple of the guys at the cigar lounge are left eye dominant and right handed and they said it worked well for them, but obviously they were not shooting it, they were just drawing and aiming onto a target in the back room.

We'll see how it plays out in some real world testing ... after Melen is done with fencing season.

Here's another concept that encourages two-eyed target acquisition. I had them on my 1911's when I was into IPSC, and in particular, the one now laying on the night stand. Target acquisition is lighting fast, with Tritium night sights and without a diminished sight radius. The Big Dot front post option seems as big as a golf ball, perfect for CQC. Just find COM, dot the "I" and goose the trigger twice!

MD, the Occluder sight is a neat concept. But A) how's it work out with common holsters; any interference?, B) are they relatively snag-free?, and C) what the hell is a 1911 guy like you doing with a Glock?

Melen has a BIG DOT and EXPRESS set up on her Hi-Power. Works well, but I think the Occluder might work better for her.

A) works with low profile and slide type holsters, not with full coverage holsters
B) Probably not very snag free, never carried it, but they actually advertise the bulk of the sight as a racking point so I'd say it would snag if you were using it for deep concealment.
C) I have no guns, what is a 1911, what is a Glock? Are you thinking these are REAL guns?
