Ernest Gann wrote in "Fate is the Hunter" that pilots will always stop talking and watch a plane take off or fly by.

It's true. I was outdoors waiting for a meeting to get going and doing the usual, swapping lies with a bunch of of like minded friends. There were four of us in that conversation about cars, when a particularly loud twin took off from a nearby airport and flew over us to exit the control area straight downwind. Without a comment about how loud it was, the conversation just stopped and every single one of us looked up to watch the airplane fly by. Turns out all of us has been involved in Aviation some way in our past.

Sometime in the past the FAA reviewed the last comments made by Pilots prior to a crash.

Without exception it was "Oh Shit..."
